My sports medicine appointment got bumped up to Wednesday of this week. Dude was very cool. My age-ish, visibly works out and has a solid amount of muscle.. we were able to shoot the shit and be very open about things. For my knee PT he wants me focusing on loaded eccentrics, so I’ll be incorporating that. Gave me a few additional moves to do, but for strengthening my glutes and all the little muscles that stabilize your hips.. he explained how that stability helps protect your knees, so I’m doing those as well.
He cleared me to hit the stationary bike, just said to make sure I’m getting close to full extension with my knee when pedaling. I’m a little worried that I’m slightly too tall for this bike and that my knee is staying more bent that it should, but I’ll probably take a picture/video and send it to him and see what he says.
I told him about running those peptides (I left out the actual GH from the conversation due to legality) and he said he thinks they’re good, but as a doctor he can’t recommend them since there isn’t any medical literature about their effectiveness. He did say that he can get me a referral for needling in my tendon, and possibly for PRP but that that one would be out of network since Kaiser doesn’t offer it up here. Said to hit him up after doing PT for another couple months if it doesn’t seem fully healed… I’ll try him in a month just to see if he’ll put the orders in for me anyways.
MRI was kind of nuts to see. I figured the tear had started at one side and was going across the tendon, but it was being pulled apart lengthwise from the middle. His analogy, which works well, was to imagine you grabbed a piece of string cheese and started pulling it apart from the middle instead of peeling from the top.
Been lifting. Training is shit. I’m still not sleeping much and I’m depressed about my knee, the lack of sleep, and how long I’ve had bodybuilding on hold with our whole fertility treatment and shit. Just going through the motions at this point. Hopefully sleep improves and my knee is healed in the next few months and I can get closer to being able to train at 100%.
hope you can get back to it soon man. I know not that long after charile was born i got the home gym stuff set up, helped keep me sane.
I'm also feeling some training doldrums myself. cpap definitely helping with sleep & recovery. got back recovered from last tweak, and made some pretty heavy lifts this week: 385x2 squat, 255x2 bench, 145 2x1 seated press, and a 435x3 deadlift. Felt poopoo this am for the deads, tho weight moved and im sure I could have got 500. If i had the time Id have probably loaded it up but just needed to get to work. Thats what i get for having some dark chocolate covered almonds last night.
I should get back on an actual program to try and pump up some of those numbers (again). They arent far off from maxes of last year.

That reminds me, meant to send you these links. Just in case you haven’t bought cleaning stuff for the CPAP yet…
When you clean the hose, do it as early in the morning as you can then let it hang to dry all day or else you’ll get these weird popping noises from any moisture still trapped in there.
I'm surprised your PT didn't talk about isometrics.
They're killer for joint health - long and short of it is, when we move a joint quickly through a range of motion, we're only using those muscle fibers we're most accustomed to using. When you train isometrics, as those fibers become exhausted, it forces the others to "wake up" and fire in a way that training through a full range of motion can't do.
For example:
On the hip stability front I think all of this is really good:
I would still try to take the joint through a full range if you can, without pain or maybe nothing more than like a 2/10. I'd be trying some slant board squats but with a lot of assistance so the pain level is zero or as close to it as you can get.

Actual PT may, I haven’t been in to see them yet.. that appointment is like 10/25, so still a ways away. If they don’t, I’ll ask them about working those in. Thanks dude!
First AM gym session this morning. I do not miss this shit. Gotta do what I gotta do though. Few more months and hopefully I can start taking her to my real gym in the afternoons.
Signed up for a place called Snap Fitness. 5 minutes from my house, so even closer than Planet Fitness. Gets me a couple extra minutes in the gym. I think I like PF better though. Very underwhelmed by this place, especially since I’ve been to their facility in the next town over where my buddies live with them a few times and that one was a solid 4/7 for being a commercial gym. This one is 2.5/7 at best.

How’s the sites at the new place? That’s what we all care about!

Me too You know why.
glad to hear you're back on the train and at least getting some sessions in. Hopefully things start healing up nicely with the new regiment.

Very unfortunately. I’ve done 3pm 5pm 10pm and now a 545am session and there is zero talent. Way better sites at Planet Fitness and my normal gym.
Threw in a Coog’s recommended iso hold today after my overloaded eccentrics. Put the machine as light as it goes with just 10lb and held it for a minute. No tendon pain or discomfort which was good. But damn I actually felt my quad working to hold that lol. Knee was open to around 135°

Hell yeah. I can’t wait to deadlift again. I probably could right now, but with my anatomy I definitely use some quads to get the weight up so don’t want to risk putting too much tension on that tendon for now.

Did 5 minutes of backwards walking on a treadmill set at 7° incline after too. Knee feeling pretty good right now.

Maybe I’ll start throwing in a bit of backwards walking as my knee bothers me occasionally. Easy enough to do when I’m already stuck at a hotel.
It came highly recommended from mother friend of mine as well. The dude who got me into the gym for the first time years and years ago. We had a chance to catch up in Nashville last year and he was saying he’d been doing it going up the grade in their backyard and his knees have never felt better.

395 was my max deadlift. Never happening again.
Not with that attitude it ain’t!
That’s okay though. There’s nothing magical about them and it’s very easy to argue that they waste a lot of energy resources when training. Unless you really love doing them, or need to do them because you’re a powerlifter, there’s no reason to force them in to a program.

I do those at the very end of the back workout after I have already trashed my lats and lower back. 265 Max. Fine finisher, I have given up on big numbers in the DL @ AARP age. My max was only like 325 anyway.
