I mean, I don't think it's a contest. But it's not like there aren't other Bentleys or high end autos there. Loads of people both rich and poor. Cincinnati and Columbus are both pretty cool cities. Cleveland is more what you'd expect if you're a flyover naysayer.
Car Talk 6: Best of times and Worst of Times
Nothing like Californians, New Yorkers, and Texans acting like the rest of the US isn't even worth seeing.
Obviously if you're not in CA, TX, NY, or FL you're too poor to own anything but a Corolla or aging F150.

I’ve heard Cincinnati is cool as fuck. Only draw Ohio has ever had for me is going to Columbus to see the Arnold classic though. But I’m boring and don’t have any interest in recreational travel.

I think he said 105. Bought and registered through his business, for his wife. "My wife didn't like the attention and was too scared to park it near other cars. She asked for a X5 instead like all her friends have".
I actually saw her yesterday in her white over brown X5M.
Edit: fuckin Dan
our local resident rich car guy (10x ferraris, enzo, pagani, p1, etc) drives his shit all over town. His name is Dan too. His cars show up in local car groups posting all over. parking in gravel lots etc with young kids like ZOMG YOU CANT DO THAT. And the old guys are like Dan gonna Dan.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 12:44 pmI think he said 105. Bought and registered through his business, for his wife. Why are you reaching here? You mentioned something like OH is the 7th most populous state. The comment in return was that it was something not quite aspirational. That doesn't really sell it as anything special. Like finishing 7th in a race. As mentioned I am sure parts of Ohio are cool, but that doesn't make it BFE.
Ohio is the 38th/50 in the states as far as income so while I am sure there are "rich" areas it is certainly not a prime target for a Bentley Owner.
I'm reaching no more than you are... occasionally the comments that everyone outside of CA is too poor to do XYZ get old and I'm just pointing out that they are utterly baseless.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:12 pmWhy are you reaching here? No one said that. I said Ohio Bentley ownership is odd. So yes you're reaching.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:16 pmI'm reaching no more than you are... occasionally the comments that everyone outside of CA is too poor to do XYZ get old and I'm just pointing out that they are utterly baseless.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:12 pm

Why does this take balls? And you've never been to the state of OH.
I could see a lot about this taking balls - buying a car that depreciates $3K/month takes balls. Buying something that will probably have insane electrical issues takes balls. I just don't see how which state it is is relevant. This is OH, not a third world country.

Even if they have plenty of money, like I'm guessing the Bentley guy does, there's still some math that has to work. The reserve just allows you to set the floor for the maneuver.D Griff wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 4:16 pm
I am pretty convinced after listening to Doug's pod that no reserve is indeed the best way. Those dudes obviously have the market data. If you can't list it for no reserve, you can't afford to sell it to 'upgrade'.
I'm not sure what the point/end game is of clinging to the idea of a high reserve/value when the car just isn't there. It's only going to keep going down. Keep it and drive it or accept that it's not worth what you want it to be worth and take what you can.
I don't think most people are just done with a vehicle and will just sell it for whatever. There's always a point when it makes more sense to keep it.
I believe that no reserve does likely bring in more action, but I don't think it's meaningful at all. I would have a hard time just throwing a car out there with no reserve, especially with something like this Bentley. If it was something super common where there are transactions happening daily in volume, then it's a much safer bet. But something as unique as this, it's hard to determine market value prior to listing and is a much bigger risk to list with no reserve.
At the time of selling my R, similar ones were listed in the $38-40k range. I was hoping for $38k because it was pretty mint and had an extra set of OE wheels. C&B wanted the reserve at $34k so we split it and set it at $36k. Ended up selling for just above that but when you factor in their fees plus shipping the guy probably did end up spending in that $38-40k range. IIRC trade offer from the was $33k.
I never considered no reserve . You've gotta hope you get that one specific buyer on your auction. Wasn't willing to take the chance.
i stand corrected. there is a bentley service/dealer in columbus. My statements are retracted.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:22 pmQuoting to fact check...

It takes balls in the same ways it takes balls to drive a lifted F350 diesel dually in SF. Doesn't matter if someone "Visited" the state. The data on it is pretty clear.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:22 pmQuoting to fact check...

homie, stand down. They have a ton of luxo dealers in Columbus. its a small bubble within a large state.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:43 pmIt takes balls in the same ways it takes balls to drive a lifted F350 diesel dually in SF. Not worth Max'ing out on this topic.
I think it comes down to population really. Columbus is pretty large, a lot bigger than New Orleans or Baton Rouge.dubshow wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:26 pmi stand corrected. there is a bentley service/dealer in columbus. My statements are retracted.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:22 pm
