Got a promotion at work and need a car within a week.

Suggestions?

Must have:
FWD or AWD
Automatic
Around $30k since it’s a cash purchase due to awful finance rates
Relaxed drive

Ideally has:
Hatch
Raised a bit since I’ll be visiting gravel sites

First thought is a current gen Volvo V60 cross country. Either Lisa takes it or I do. Can haul the whole family and would be easier on the dog who has bad hips now.

Premium fuel and lower than hybrid mpg isn’t great but it seems like a nice vehicle.

Don’t really need something that can haul the whole family but it would be nice to live with.

A4 allroad I always forget about. Never see them on the road. That’s a cool suggestion.

The RDX is ok and I like them overall but I’d rather have the Volvo really. More comfy and better fuel economy. The RDX gets awful fuel mileage.

I even found a green on cream with B&O stereo in PA. Mods can close the thread

I was going to suggest a Forester as well. JP liked his other Subie, and I have to friends who recently bought Forsters, one XT and one Wilderness, and they both love them and are very happy with them.

Mazda3 Turbo? If ground clearance is an absolute must, CX-30 Turbo? Both are great vehicles if you don't need a lot of space.

Yeah, I was thinking Forester Wilderness. It'd be a safe choice. There are a TON of options in this segment, tho.

What about a Civic hatch? New they start around $25K, they have tons of space, 38 MPG highway, really nice interiors now.

Something about the five seat CUV category is just too depressing to handle. I like the Mazda suggestions as well but I think JP mentioned not liking them before.

Maybe a GTI complete with sunroof

+1 on civic. reliability, resale, decent to drive, and you already have another honderp that has been trouble free through boogerville.

The other one is a fake macan aka the new HRV.

You know I thought about a GTI with the automatic. But it would just make me rage out because of how jerky that transmission is.

CUV category is depressing if you care about how it drives. I only care that it has enough power to not feel like a shitbox.

My mom has an insight which is a civic hybrid really. I don’t get the hype. It’s ok I guess but rides kind of rough, loud, and feels pretty cramped due to the raked windshield. Like the CRV is basically a Benz compared to it.

At the prices of those… I’d rather have the Volvo? They’re ok I guess. The CX50 has enough space. Prices are high on them though since they’re still pretty new. The 3 might be kind of tight. Reviews say they ride hard which is how I felt about the CX5. Not actually sporty but a rough ride like it was trying to be sporty.

Too many to pick from. Forester is bland af but would probably work well. Subarus kind of have a “shitbox” feel to them. I guess the forester at least avoids the crappy enormous touch screen in the recent Subarus though.

Friends have one and they like it well enough. Decently reliable except for the thermal control valve at$1500-2k to fix.

I don’t hate the Rav hybrid. Seat cushion was short but overall fine.

They sell well for a reason.

Boring, absolutely.
Reliable, mostly.
Good on gas, reasonably.
What you can afford for 30k, unfortunately.

I think the cheapest gti is just about 33k with the auto. And honestly kind of fun etc… but you didn’t have good luck with yours so you’d do a repeat …
