Tomorrow we're going to petersen auto museum and griffith observatory towards the late afternoon with various things along the way. Is the vault worth it, tickets are 48 with vault per adult, but regular is 21 a pop. I read that I tend to learn more about history.

Also got a m440i vert off turo. It does not feel like a huge jump in terms of acceleration compared to my accord 2.slow, atleast without from dig. but sound the driving is of course a whole lot better. Very cruiser like car that I can see myself moving onto, but not convertible of course. Also normal driving, very very similar to s5 sportback.
Don’t do the vault. Go to the Nethercut if you wanted more car shit and I’m pretty sure it’s free.

Enjoy that $6 a gallon gas :bruh:

Be very careful at Griffith. Cars get bipped on the reg. Don’t leave anything valuable inside or any luggage. And don’t be putting luggage in trunk when you pull up to the lot, they are watching

Already filled up, after SD when leaving Anaheim. :wasteful: most likely I'll fill it one last time which is when I'll return the car. Plan on doing that before checking out of the hotel since hotel is near the airport.

Dc got it's own share with cars breaking in. But growing up in Istanbul, I was taught by my dad to never leave shit in the car because of the same issue. :tits: too as she grew up in Miami.

TK, while you’re staying in El Segundo, if you guys want to go out for some nightlife, just down the coast you’ll hit the Hermosa Beach pier. Lots of bars, jam packed every night, generally good vibes. Haven’t been there in a while, but The Underground is right off the pier and has pool, shuffleboard, darts, etc., and is a way more laid back vibe. On the pier we used to like American Junkie (formerly Sangria). Zpizza (used to be Zeppy’s) at the end of the night for a slice or two to soak up the drinks.

Alternatively, you can head up the coast to Dockweiler beach where there are the only legal fire pits on a beach in LA County. Get there early to snag a pit, or you can build your own (the lifeguards/cops are generally cool with that provided you agree not to bury the hot coals at the end of the night). This place is cool, not only for the fire pits, but because LAX is immediately east of it, so you can watch planes taking off overhead while you chill on the beach with your fire. Don't remember the laws surrounding it, but we used to bring a couple beers and as long as you were getting rowdy, the cops didn’t ever care about that either.

Which is why I plan on getting gas before checking out of hotel, without valuables in the car. But noted for observatory. Things have been good knock on wood, but park on garages and lots.

https://www.thefp.com/p/i-thought-i-was ... trans-kids

Even some of the lefties are sick of this shit

I am a 42-year-old St. Louis native, a queer woman, and politically to the left of Bernie Sanders. My worldview has deeply shaped my career. I have spent my professional life providing counseling to vulnerable populations: children in foster care, sexual minorities, the poor.

For almost four years, I worked at The Washington University School of Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases with teens and young adults who were HIV positive. Many of them were trans or otherwise gender nonconforming, and I could relate: Through childhood and adolescence, I did a lot of gender questioning myself. I’m now married to a transman, and together we are raising my two biological children from a previous marriage and three foster children we hope to adopt.
snip
The center’s working assumption was that the earlier you treat kids with gender dysphoria, the more anguish you can prevent later on. This premise was shared by the center’s doctors and therapists. Given their expertise, I assumed that abundant evidence backed this consensus.

During the four years I worked at the clinic as a case manager—I was responsible for patient intake and oversight—around a thousand distressed young people came through our doors. The majority of them received hormone prescriptions that can have life-altering consequences—including sterility.

I left the clinic in November of last year because I could no longer participate in what was happening there. By the time I departed, I was certain that the way the American medical system is treating these patients is the opposite of the promise we make to “do no harm.” Instead, we are permanently harming the vulnerable patients in our care.
snip
To begin transitioning, the girls needed a letter of support from a therapist—usually one we recommended—who they had to see only once or twice for the green light. To make it more efficient for the therapists, we offered them a template for how to write a letter in support of transition. The next stop was a single visit to the endocrinologist for a testosterone prescription.

That’s all it took.
(emphasis mine, and fucking criminal)
snip
Because I was the main intake person, I had the broadest perspective on our existing and prospective patients. In 2019, a new group of people appeared on my radar: desisters and detransitioners. Desisters choose not to go through with a transition. Detransitioners are transgender people who decide to return to their birth gender.

The one colleague with whom I was able to share my concerns agreed with me that we should be tracking desistance and detransition. We thought the doctors would want to collect and understand this data in order to figure out what they had missed.

We were wrong. One doctor wondered aloud why he would spend time on someone who was no longer his patient.

But we created a document anyway and called it the Red Flag list. It was an Excel spreadsheet that tracked the kind of patients that kept my colleague and me up at night.

One of the saddest cases of detransition I witnessed was a teenage girl, who, like so many of our patients, came from an unstable family, was in an uncertain living situation, and had a history of drug use. The overwhelming majority of our patients are white, but this girl was black. She was put on hormones at the center when she was around 16. When she was 18, she went in for a double mastectomy, what’s known as “top surgery.”

Three months later she called the surgeon’s office to say she was going back to her birth name and that her pronouns were “she” and “her.” Heartbreakingly, she told the nurse, “I want my breasts back.” The surgeon’s office contacted our office because they didn’t know what to say to this girl.

My colleague and I said that we would reach out. It took a while to track her down, and when we did we made sure that she was in decent mental health, that she was not actively suicidal, that she was not using substances. The last I heard, she was pregnant. Of course, she’ll never be able to breastfeed her child.

snip

Then I came across comments from Dr. Rachel Levine, a transgender woman who is a high official at the federal Department of Health and Human Services. The article read: “Levine, the U.S. assistant secretary for health, said that clinics are proceeding carefully and that no American children are receiving drugs or hormones for gender dysphoria who shouldn’t.”

I felt stunned and sickened. It wasn’t true. And I know that from deep first-hand experience.

So I started writing down everything I could about my experience at the Transgender Center. Two weeks ago, I brought my concerns and documents to the attention of Missouri’s attorney general. He is a Republican. I am a progressive. But the safety of children should not be a matter for our culture wars.
Fuck anyone that supports doing this to children, they are sub-human in my opinion and should be dealt with as such.

Mid-year performance review went great. Exceeds expectations across the board with notable growth in taking on more of a headship role with my contract actions instead of setting to my contract officers. Cash pool for bonuses is low this year with budget constraints, but I got the $500 max, plus a 40 hour time-off award to use at any point in the next year. Dope.

Also, my level 1 warrant (signature authority) came in today so that was a nice surprise they dropped on me at the end of my review meeting. I’m now officially a contracting officer rather than a specialists and can sign off on actions up to $250k. Need to get some experience with that and then start working towards my level 2 warrant (good for $10M lol what a jump). Once I get my level 3 (unlimited signature authority muahahaha) I’ll be eligible for a promotion.

Saw a bunch of motorcycles out today, and now I wanna get a bike again. I get this itch every spring. I’ve been looking at FB marketplace motorcycle listings for the last 20 minutes.

I’ll probably change my mind once I see another Charlotte driver cut off a motorcyclist and almost kill them.

But I have this overwhelming feeling to get more two wheel action….

My wife says she will allow this, but will never ride. I’ve been looking at bike trailers so I can tow my bike behind my motorcycle….

Congrats on the increase Sawce!

It’s unfortunately not hard to be a star here. I try to keep myself performing as if I’m trying to excel in a private industry job and the competition is fierce.

It’s very nice to see that everyone from my peers and COs I’ve been working under, to my team lead and up to the division director see and acknowledge the work.

Thanks dude!

I get the two wheel itch from time to time. Especially when I was in SoCal and you could ride 9-10 month of the year with no special weather gear. Much shorter riding season here keeps me from ever looking to scratch that itch.

Nice job man. Feels good to get some positive recognition. Both my boss bro and VP acknowledged anything could happen with this acquisition but said I’m one of the best talents on the team and they definitely see me as critical to keep on after everything. Not bad overall.

I’m honestly kind of excited about the acquisition. I for the most part do enjoy what I do, the company/management/strategy has just been a bit :wtf: of late. I figure this is an opportunity to right some of the :bs: with commissions and whatnot and maybe try some new things at work. If I wind up canned, I’ll likely get a severance and wasn’t married to staying anyway, so possibly something to gain and not a ton to lose.

Now that I am back. Also after 13 years man do I miss the best coast, Cali in some ways reminds me of Turkey, the climate is very very similar. Cold in the early morning and evening + warm/hot minus humidity during the day. I used to go there a lot when I was way younger even before we moved to US cause one of my dads close friends lives in Glendora since the 80's. There is some nostalgia to it for sure.

Started the trip by going to San Diego. Landed in LAX, grabbed the turo rental, which is located in quikpark as they don't allow those in regular parking spots. Waited the shuttle for it for a good 30-40 minutes.

Before that, but didn't really quite surprised me, :tits: decided to go with a bigger bag that required to check in. At the baggage claim, I decided to use the mens room. While I saw one stall door that was open, I was surprised and greeted by a homeless lady talking to herself. Done my business. That's it.

Anyway grabbed the m440i vert, very nice car. Our belongings did fit to a brim of course, a large luggage, a carryon luggage and a backpack. Hit the start and the b58 just comes to life, gotta tame the beast down in rainy LA which of course people seem to drive like granny's.

Went straight to our accommodation in San Diego (after my first time in in n out), mostly on 405 and 5, which we did see the Pacific Ocean along the drive. Speaking of which, I find driving myself to be more calmer here, everyone goes 75-85, not often here I find someone going 50 in the left lane, nor someone cuts in front of you as if you're not there, treat other cars like traffic cones going at jail speeds, no hesitant drivers; all 4 of which, I see it on a VERY regular basis here in my neck of the woods. People know how to drive there compared to the DMV, people there drive like they have somewhere to go. Even when someone cuts me off, they accelerate, I never have to slow down (unlike DMV). Just today, I had a Tesla cut me off, I was on the far right, then forced me to slow down from 50 to 20 :dafuq: . That's enough of my driving ted talk.

Got to the hotel in SD, shower and all that Jazz and headed out to La Jolla, to see the sea lions. Ventured the area a little bit, never went to see downtown. Next day, had breakfast over at La Jolla, cruised around a little bit along the coast. After checking out, we drove along the pch 101 had some Pizza, stopped by encinitas. Hopped on the highway and went straight o Anaheim, for :tits: Disney bug. She has never been to Cali before. We stayed at a Marriott but it turned out to be kind of a dump, for one, all the non-management front desk staff are being trained, which something tells me this place may have a high turnover, because it doesn't seem to run right. Gives me PTSD of the shitty marriott I worked at. Boy was I right, :tits: wanted to take a shower when we arrived and wait for it, the bathtub faucet came out when she tried to open the shower head  immedietly marched to the front desk and told them whats up, they were quick enough to give me an even better room. In the end, before we left, when we walked barefoot, we noticed the housekeeping didn't really fully clean the floor. We noticed the housekeeping was just a boy who looks like 13 that doesn't speak english (poor guy). Which explains everything. It was clearly owned by a motel previously. Nonetheless, we had our fun at Disney, :tits: a big fan and I just don't dislike it and go along with it, the pixar cars was pretty cool though along with food and wine festival, so daydrinking ftw.

Now Anaheim bound is over, headed over to El Segundo we go. We were super tired spending an entire day in Disney, quite the work out. The day we arrived to El Segundo, we decided it was a chill night and headed over to Santa Monica for dinner. My legs and thighs were still sore.

The next day consists of sightseeing, visiting a a few tourist attractions, Peterson Auto Museum was nice, but did not get the vault which I kinda regret due to questionable duration. It was cool to see some things for sure. Stopped by to see Toretto's house, of course :neat: and all that jazz. At the time we were there, which was only 2 minutes. A couple cars passed by and filmed it, along with another jogger wearing super short green neon shorts took a selfie with it across the street. Down the street was the market, which you can easily see from the house. Then headed over to Griffith Observatory. No Max, luckily not a single car has been damaged from theft. It was a great experience. Drove around in Beverly Hills and the like and got back to hotel in an hour.

Last full day, thank you @sawce, Hermosa is slept on underrated. It's a neat cute little hidden gem of a town. Had breakfast at one of the iconic brunch places that's a block away from pier. Explored downtown LA a little bit and I can see why people say LA is not worth it. Blocks and blocks of tents, we did saw tents in areas outside of it, but per block it appeared to be mostly 5 at best and not exactly everywhere you see.

All in all, would come back again and probably do a cross cali trip, if it can be accommodated. :tits: and her younger gen z sibling truly underestimated the state.

Starting the new gig tomorrow and see what happens from there.

Also to add, our last night in LA or Cali, I took :tits: to Duke's in Malibu, our server was also too from NOVA when he asked for our ID's for drinks. But man so many people got pulled over there in PCH, non stop, everyone followed the posted speed limit.

Lot of the good driving roads were closed though outside of small portion of Muholland which I did stretch its legs a little bit. Will add a few pics. M440i was really fun, but it is also a heavier car which is easily felt compared to Accord.

Downtown San Diego is not worth seeing any more. Every street reeks of homeless shit and piss. Little Italy is as close to downtown as I’d ever want to get.
