These are used and abused hot garbage … 80k miles and near what it sold new 7 years ago … no fucking way.

At that point wouldn’t some old Buick with 40-50k miles for 6-7k make way more sense

Like so… couch on wheels for the entire family with enough money to put towards gas and repairs until you retire. Gm3800 is just about the worlds most reliable engine

The corolla hatch and sedan are entirely different cars.

I'm with Max, a new Civic Sport is a way better buy for the money (or even a new Corolla, the hatch is :notbad: ).
The new Corollas are like an entire vehicle class smaller than the civic, especially the hatches it seems ? The Corolla hatch is not really suitable for a family of 3-4. A civic or Altima is … imo

Oh right Altima ! I really didn’t mind my SR rental. It’s no fancy Italian stallion but it’ll go to 200k with nothing but hopes and dreams.

I’d still maintain that no matter how good looking the Korean cars are they are not worth it … 1:2 chance you end up in an entire engine recall or not being able to insure it. Fuck that

My in lawns nearly rode a 4 cyl 2wd first generation tacoma into the ground. And that one gets passed down to african children's children in "normal" operating conditions.

it wont crumble into the ground around 120k. an 80k mile yota is barely broken in.

Also, i included lower miles examples, don't take the highest price and highest mileage as example that's disingenuous. the one with a ton of miles was 14k.

nothing out there is going to be super low cost, reliable, and new or new ish. Either pony up for newer and lower miles or buy a well worn in appliance for cheap as a bridge car Johnny.

The problem I’m having is a new Prius is $35k.
A 330i / Giulia / A4 is $30k ish used.
A rav4 hybrid with 40k miles is more than a new Prius.

Shit is all over the place. Anything remotely “logical” is astronomical and higher used than new which I still don’t understand.

Part of me wants to go with a $12k beater and then when I get a house get a Tesla. But those $12k beaters are now 150k mile elantras.
I can’t recommend any EV outside of tesla for charging reasons as well as durability.

Their warranties aren't all that great? Rivian's is way better. I think Lucid is right on par. Kia, Hyundai, Genesis are better.

But perhaps most important: Tesla has a history of denying warranty claims.

Huh? I had 5. All got resolved. Current model s/x has a 8 year 150k mile warranty on battery and drive unit 8 year or 120k miles on the Y. You get all the little issues resolved initially and given how common they are they are the cheapest cars to operate in their price range

So let’s say it’s parallel parked on the street every night and never washed.

Man. I had to drive through west Philly today for a meeting. And I forgot how awful the roads are out there. I’d have scraped an Altima bumper about 5 times this morning due to the enormous potholes and bombed out roads. Can’t have nice things guys.

Your average So Cal Altima driver has several missing hubcaps or severely curbed rams, several bumper strikes, peeling paint from being left out in the sun, and an interior that smells like diapers and taco bell wrappers, piloted by a 28 yoa hispanic female with at least two children whose father is either unknown or MIA.

I don’t see how an Altima can’t handle Philly. That thing can handle the moon.

If all that bothers you get a cuckoma with the 2.7 liter I4 and 16” ballon tires. It is the most reliable vehicle currently offered in the us. And it will handle your “raids” just fine. Can be had for 35k or far less even.

That's gotta be way too big for his street parking needs. I'd think a Cucktrek would fit the bill. Also lunar-surface capable in a far smaller footprint, yet (likely) able to fit a :baby: and a :doge: . :notsure: on :dat: , :doe: , so maybe an Outback would be better?

Cucktrek seems like a no brainer option also.

Oh I’m sure it can handle it. There are a lot of altimas in the city. There’s just less to think about if you have balloon tires like my CRV does.

It’s all for naught really. I’m 90% sure I’m removing my name from consideration on the job anyway. I’d go from 3 days in with 15 min commute / 2 remote to 5 days in with 1.5 hrs of commuting for maybe $10-15k pay increase. And then have to get a second car and insure it and all that shit.

Nah.

That's an extra 300 hours of commuting a year for $10k-$15k/year? And you have to buy a second car? Noooo way. That'll probably work out to being paid minimum 300 hours a year or something

Dude you said their warranty sucks? I am just pointing out to you that it doesn't. Shit breaks they fix it. All of my car tesla issues were cosmetic and they were addressed. My power wall failed and was replaced.

GM for example is replacing all of the Bolt batteries because they are POS korean garbage. Nissan couldn't figure out leaf batteries for 2 generations, bmw took 2 generations to figure out batteries on the I cars.

EVs are very problematic in some ways. That said tesla is the most common one out there and there is something to be said about that.
