How's gas mileage and highway comfort? Obviously not a cruiser, but decent?fledonfoot wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 7:26 pmWe had a work event last week which included a near 150 mile backroad blast to a brunch event.
I promise you that you’re going to love this car. It’s sublime. It takes everything that the first car lacked and fixes it… you can drive it at 9 or 10 tenths and still be in the realm of legality everywhere.
Short of a 718 Spyder it might be the most fun car I’ve ever driven. I’m 9100 miles in already and it continues to be a blast.
The dark blue is awesome. I love it and probably should have gone that way. Congrats.

My commute is 46 miles, of which 36 is interstate highway at 75-85. It'll do 26.5 combined. It's ticking over at nearly 4000 RPM at 85 and 3000 at 70.

My dealership group held its 12th annual road rally with about 120 miles of driving across southeastern PA. I snagged a spot alongside some nice sheetmetal. Wifey has no idea how to shoot/film cars but put this together after the event.

I got the VIN for the '86 today so I could let the insurance company know what I'm up to, but also decided to submit for a quote from Carvana just for fun. $38.2k. OTD price will be $33.8k after all taxes and fees.
Not gonna lie, might flip it.

I have turned down offers of $43 and $48k from customers of mine.
Nothing to replace it with and so it stays.

Seriously, that's insane. I figured the paying over MSRP for used car bs was done for them, surprised to see that it's not.

Great opportunity to test out a car with minimal risk if you don't NEED the car though. Buy it, try it, sell it for a profit, then buy another later when availability is more normalized. The thing will only get better through the lifecycle, there's no reason to be in a hurry right now IMO.

The GTI is just as, if not more, likely to lose value over the next 3 months as the '86. The smart move would still probably be to off the GTI for the current crazy value, drive the '86 for 3 months and sell before winter, and probably still pull a profit. I just don't want to waste $2,500 for PPF and a coating if I'm going to do that.

From a purely financial standpoint, this is the right move. Don't mess with PPF or anything like that because Carvana DGAF about that.coogles wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 5:15 pm The GTI is just as, if not more, likely to lose value over the next 3 months as the '86. If it ends up being something you want to keep, order another one while you enjoy the one you have and off it in September/October or so. There's nothing rare or unique about these things and they'll be producing them for years to come (and getting better over time). If it's not required for daily transport, off it.

The fact that the GR86 is pulling 4 grand at 85 mph but purportedly has a top end of 140 mph has my head wrapped up like a pretzel.

That's when you sell it and buy another that you do all the fancy stuff to.coogles wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 6:41 pmUnless I decide I want to keep it, in which case I'll be kicking myself for not doing it.Detroit wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 5:49 pm

Lisa used to have a Tiguan. She never took it over 3k rpm. I coaxed her to floor it once. It shifted at redline. She said it was scary and never did it again lol.
