I am sort of what to do here, we have like 10 members. The crowd funding from 2020 is long gone and I haven't really had time to look at it that much. Are people interested in me keeping it going and willing to kick a few bucks my way to keep the doors open here? I am kind of discouraged by these recent events.

We could also start a Discord server for free and keep in touch that way.

I'm sad because I have really valued this friendship and community over the past 10+ years ( ). That said, it seems to be rather toxic for some individuals who can't check politics at the door or various other things. It seems many of us have different views but can get along just fine, others can't play nice.

I'm kind of sick of the divide in our society and watching this place fall apart just sort of rubs salt in the wound.

I'm not about to pull the plug or anything, but just given the fact that there are errors and whatnot constantly, I'm spending a couple hunnit a year, I feel some stupid responsibility for the place, etc. it's just not feeling great to me. [user not found] largely handled software updates and shit and to be honest I have minimal time or inclination to learn about that side of things and I don't think anyone else here seems to either.

I'm happy to pitch in. I'm not really sure that the appropriate response to watching the divide in society is to perpetuate that divide. This place helps me stay on top of things that I would otherwise be ignorant of due to hanging out with a bunch of all the time, people are smart on here and while losing Zach sucks it pretty hard, the guy was a content king and a nice fella to boot, I think just folding seems kind of weaksauce.

I DO THINK, that some of the entertainment on this forum came from the of conflict, but the whole rule of "don't be a dick" has been critically ignored and led to division and decay. To that end, the use of this forum as some kind of cradle of free speech should have its limits, like when it rubs up agains the Dick Rule.

Brad should have gotten tossed when Zach offered up that both of them needed to STFU and Brad replied that nope, only Z NEEDED TO STFU. And that whole aftermath thing with calls to hang Fauci, gimme a fucking break like 30 straight posts with like one chime in by Mario who probably DOES have some gripes against .gov overreach.

Troy FREQUENTLY violated the Dick Rule was was always given some kind of special dispensation, probably because he had redeeming qualities and probably because people liked the But he should have been tossed for expressing desire that the VID kill off Max's family, like Max should have gotten tossed for telling TROY to off himself.

I don't think we need to tolerate any of this stuff. If we could get Alan back here and would offer up that Dan and Alan should be the new ban police, and when you threaten what's left of forum cohesiveness because what you have to say is just so TERRIBLY important...........you get shown to the door. Dan and Alan, have, over 10 years, IMHO shown themselves to be reasonable, empathetic, and intelligent, WITHOUT FAIL and WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Most of the rest of us can't say that.

Well said, IMO. Sadly I don't think Alan is coming back anytime soon. Shame as he is a good friend of mine and also I feel delivers quality content with the builds - from the C5 to the E30 to the M3 and all things between.

I will probably create the Discord Server for DFD and invite people while simultaneously keeping this going. We can see if people are open to shooting the shit on that platform as well. I agree with Max that taking 'ownershit' out of it would be nice. I really have no interest in owning this, I just want to partake in what I find to be enjoyable conversation about topics I enjoy (mainly cars but I've learned a lot here from many of the members about all sorts of things - cycling, finance, travel, food, real estate, Pinshit/house shit, etc.). At the time I 'took over' it seemed like the only way forward as I have an offline relationship with Zack and Paul and also had fairly good standing with both sides of the politics fence.

And I don't think anything I have ever posted on this forum was so important that removing it is some kind of censorship. It's not like any of us is sitting in the basement in Moscow typing out morse code to keep our fellow countrymen in the know about the real story unfolding in our country. It is also quite apparent that infatuation with "muh freedoms" on an interwebz forum mostly dedicated to things like soft porn and brake fluid is PRECISELY its downfall. If you want to get censored, go stand in the town square and run your mouth all reckless and see if any jackbooted cops kick your ass.

The entire reason this forum came to be was to be a place free of and censorship. It got its own server after b e n d e r s pron got us kicked off the free server/platform, and at that point it made sense to keep us neutral and able to discuss/share whatever without threat of issue from hosts or whatever.

All that said, it's clear to me now that no place is free from division and insult, to which I'd vote to figure out a transition plan away from our unique platform and server so we don't have to deal with the tech administrative elements that none of us have the time or expertise to deal with. DFD had its time, and I think that time has now run its course. But like any good transition, that's not just a hard ctrl+alt+delete here one day gone the next. Let's try discord and see how that goes, maybe there's other options for the few of us to keep talking in some sort of organized structure.

I’ll happily join a discord server with y’all. I’ve lurked for years and obviously made/built the grundle factory. I have really enjoyed the restrictions in place as it’s made me a little more creative in my image selection. The OT threads are often internet goal imo. I’ve found the members to be varied and variety is the spice of life.

It's not even finances as much as time/expertise to keep the place going. The server errors are getting more frequent (for me at least) and nobody has the time or knowledge to fix it. Future updates and maintenance will be tough too.

So a different platform more focused on chat/bs would probably be a good move.

Max is the only one I know who has the means and desire to buy two different high level Teslas in one year. Eric has some great insight about things he's done to get himself where his is now, along with some of the greatest wordsmithing on the internet, period. Epic crew man... Dan is the nicest and probably coolest dude to host a site, how can we not find ourselves blessed with this little slice of paradise? The Toronto Sun posts a sunshine girl up each day, and they're fucking hideous 5 out of 7 days per week, DFD Grundy Factory is THE place for daily eye candy..... Fuck dudes, why are we acting like a bunch of little bitches?? There are definitely politically driven decisions causing the riffs that caused at least 80% of the quit events. Fuck both sides of the political spectrum (especially the crew who shovels 'we do it because it's best for you' rhetoric), it's a constant struggle for normal people to filter out the noise, but I'm disappointed that anyone takes anything driven by political ambition seriously, politicians can lick my :ball: -sack, and half the shit we read is put in our heads for someone else's gain.

If you're on a forum, you may need to grow a thicker skin as feelings will be hurt. I don't have any desire to find another group of internet friends to talk with, if this goes belly up I'm out. I've already severed my Instagram account and Facebook is purely an advertising medium for my side hustle. Hope we can keep this glued together for a while longer, I'm happy sending another $20-50 via snail mail as we don't have most of the payment methods y'all describe. A month or so ago I was voluntold that I’m participating in this multi agency thing in Harrisburg and giving a “Gas 101” type intro course. Ok whatever. Well my boss misunderstood the ask and it’s actually that I need to host the state’s emergency preparedness conference complete with the overview course and an emergency drill scenario.

I told my boss we need to talk about wether or not we can actually do this. We are down 3 people in the group and behind on everything as is. He said nope we are doing it you just need to figure out how.

Finding out this is his management style. Commit your people without discussing with them first. Over commit everyone and just assume they will work extra hours to figure it out.

Listen, I don’t want the forum to be abandoned. If we do want to go to a different venue I’m happy to look into setting up a discord sever. It’ll be much the same format for written word and has a voice chat server for free. We can have different chat logs for OT, car talk, house talk etc. We can also opt to exclude a political punch bowl since that caused such a heavy rift.

Can someone make a poll to see who is interested in staying here can moving to a new spot?

That sounds like a lot of pressure, how can you be sure you've got your ducks in a row without running any public announcements through a legal team first? Hosing the state emergency preparedness conference with overview course and an emergency drill scenario really should be left in the hands of someone with a strong understanding of the system. The guy sounds like he's hanging on by a thread, and definitely not someone who knows what's going on.

Yeah I’m going to start looking around. I was hoping to stay here for a year or two. But I don’t like working for him. So far I’m not a scapegoat but I see that happening in the future as we miss deadline after deadline. Because he’s used other engineers as scapegoats in the past.
