Hurts, but it’ll be worth it in the long run with the pension and benefits. I’ll coast through life on the .gov tit for the next 30-35 years until I can retire and pull my pension.

Yessir! Wish I’d gotten in with the gov earlier, but I’m still young enough to make it work. The job offer is guaranteed for me to promote up one payband for the next two years, so I’ll be back to where I am soon enough, and I’ll be mobile and able to transfer to other agencies and GTFO San Diego/California.Apex wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 11:22 amNice move dude! They wanted me to start 4/26, but then there was an issue with one of the transcripts I’d sent them, so they had to request it again and I’ll likely start sometime in May.

So maybe I missed something but I thought you just got a promo ? How come you're tightening the belt all the sudden?SAWCE wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 11:18 amI had that thought. I may throw it up on a few sites and see if anyone bites. Need to look at what I could replace it with. Probably just grab an appliance Civic or SlantyH, but no clue what those are going for used.
I owe $7k, so ideally I’d pay that off, buy something used for like $10-12k, and just cushion my savings account with the rest in case any thing comes up while I’m making less money.

No promotion, just got our annual raises here at my current gig. But I’ve been in talks with the .gov since December and finally have a firm offer and start date.. well had a start date, now have to wait for the other copy of my transcripts to get to them. I was excited for the raise here because now my PTO bank will be paid out at a higher rate when I leavemax225 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:21 pmSo maybe I missed something but I thought you just got a promo ? Used I’d go Toyota. As boring as it is, beat up slantyH and KIAs aren’t that good. GDI engines and carbon buildup is a bitch in the older ones.SAWCE wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 11:18 amI had that thought. I may throw it up on a few sites and see if anyone bites. I’d cruise in a Camry or Corolla ZFG. Found a 2018 Civic Si out here for $15k on TrueCar.razr390 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:42 pmUsed I’d go Toyota. The problem with 4 figure cars is that they used to be 3 figure cars. There is a lot of garbage under 10k. Also not like your Jeep is terribly expensive. If you don't care about it ... then yea I'd sell it, and honestly I'd get a Prius. Why? They seem to be the only vehicle steeply depreciating at the moment.

I likely won’t do anything at all, out of laziness. Just an idea I’m kicking around. We’ll see what the actual pay cut feels like first.

Yep I hear ya. I would likely keep the jeep. It will likely keep most of its value and its fun to cruise with no top etc. Anything under 10 or even 20k is just going to be either a headache or a shitbox. Horrendous time to buy any used/new vehicle at the moment.SAWCE wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:58 pmbut don’t think I could bring myself to drive a Prius.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:56 pm

Yea, I absolutely wouldn't sell a car if I had to buy another right now. You'll get a premium but pay a premium for the new and probably have to settle in various ways.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 1:07 pmYep I hear ya. I would likely keep the jeep. Yeah if the new gig was full WFH I’d off the Jeep and just uber to the gym until used prices drop. Oh well. I’ll browse around and see if anything seems worth me putting the time and effort into making a move.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 1:07 pmYep I hear ya. I would likely keep the jeep. I would until you actually have to take the trip
It may not be a need for months yet. Also, you can often rent cars for next to nothing if it's very occasional.
We could likely get by with one car but there are indeed times that we both go do stuff with friends or something, or I want to go out while is at work with the Beep Beep.

What are your WFH options ? California is "opening" up fully on 6/15 so there is a strong expectation for people to be back in the office at least part time. And that's from a state that CUCKS THE MOST of any other state. And with "progressive" tech companies where people went to WFH before anyone else.
I am a little because I like being at home at this point.
2 months is really not a long time. I know michigan is going through a solid covid wave but based on vaccine roll out etc ya'll will be through it by june also.

Yea, we'll likely make it the rest of the year with just the CT. Probably well into next year as well. We'll see, but it'll be a nice cost savings (insurance, reg) and we can put that money to use elsewhere.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 2:03 pmfor the

My company announced a target 70/30 home/work balance for the entire org permanently with in office attendance only when a meeting requires it. Daily "mindless" (their words) in person attendance will not be an option going forward. Some business units will be WFH 100%, others might be closer to 50/50. That's all we know so far. I've talked to my boss about it, he has zero interest in returning to the office at all, but said it's ultimately not up to him and we'll see what happens.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 2:06 pmWhat are your WFH options ? They're not going to force all people back in, rather they're selecting some business units to test out different models to find what works best before rolling it out the larger org. The testing is supposed to start in July and go through summer, starting with engineering functions. We're expected to be last back because our work is fine 100% remote and we'll only go back if bosses think it's best, but that won't be until the fall at the earliest, probably winter if at all.
