My dumb ass will likely just end up doing nothing until the clutch thing strands me hundreds of miles from home :doe:

I totally understand the "no substitute for gears" thing but at a certain point don't you have to start considering a lower mile C6 Z51 with 80 more hp and a lot less beat on every component?
This is a very valid point. My friend bought an LS3 C6 with Z51 pack and 28k miles for like $23000. If I could sell the C5 for $11K or so plus spending $4K on it, it is getting dangerously close.

:lolol: After the long circle jerk of virtual tire kicking, purchasing another Corvette would be rather funny. Fact is they are hard to beat for what I do with my car. It would involve a bit of work but I think most of the stuff I've done (suspension, seats, exhaust, trailer hitch) could swap over to.

I also feel like :tits: would be more in support of a shiny new thing for $25K than sinking $4K+ into a car she already thinks is a POS.

I'm in the same boat. After this last autocross, the clutch is sticking to the floor more than usual. Needs to be properly bled for a full flush. Which means installing a remote bleeder line, which means removing the whole torque tube to get to it. At 85K miles, it also means that if I'm in there, I might as well replace the clutch and the slave cylinder along with installing the bleeding line.
I believe you have to remove the rear diff to get the torque tube out, or at least loosen it up to be able to back the splines out at the front near the engine. So all of it has to come down. So it's a but more of a process than just remove this and it's easy peasy. I plan on doing it myself since I'm in poor man mode as usual, but I haven't calculated the cost of all of the parts. I'm sure I'm missing a "while you're in there part", so I need to dig deeper into that. If I do end up doing it it'll hopefully be a good selling point if I decide to sell it sometime in the near future.

Quick google search brings up this. I dunno about the axle shafts, I'm not aiming to make big power or anything
Pilot bearing and rear main seal are always on the list with a clutch job. Also, just get new flywheel bolts from GM or Jegs. They come with the correct sealant on the threads.
:dat: big time.

:hai:

Do not ignore the clutch. It's the one and only time a car stranded me...when my C5 clutch failed. Different failure because somehow the pressure plate died and essentially locked the engine to the trans, but still. THAT SUCKED

I think a lower miles C6 Z51 is the way.

:notwrong: I would argue that this is because I'm the only person on here to actually drive it as god intended.

A nicer one would be :neat: . I guess I'll call some shops and see what the damage on the clutch would be before overthinking anything. If I can just get it fully operational for $1500, that is really the way.

I'd expect a clutch job to be in the $1.5k-$2k range.

I'm in the same boat. I have a new slave to go on, and I'm wondering what kind of damage had been done to my clutch with the sticky pedal. I also really want 4.10s, but I'm not sure I want to spend $3k on shit right now.

Yeah but the point in the nicer one isn't just that it's nice for Hooters meat ups, but that it has less miles of beating so it can absorb your track days AND be somewhat less papa whiskey tango.

I would 50K mile Z06 if I were you. You're up 150 hp and the brakes are pretty amazing. I feel like I have to be careful about hard braking because 99 percent of the world has far less braking power.

Goddamit Cale, what is more important, ruling the pavement with a 427 or styling around in the sunshine? You're a welder in the Northeast where the winters come down hard, not some realtor in Palm Springs.

Yep, that's what keeps C6Z's off my list too.

A C6 GS is the sweet spot IMO, too bad the values are still :fullretard:

I think I'd give up the targa for a Z06 but they have gone up a lot in price. I like Eric's GS option a lot but it is also kind of expensive/nice for track use. The sensible thing would likely just be a Z51.

THAT THAT THAT :amazing: :megusta:

Atomic whorange Z06's are rare AF. This thing is also :plaid: with that engine.

I wonder what took the engine out? Valve or abuse? Doesn't really matter, that thing has serious hardware, and was built right.

The only thing...

Cars modded to that level will never drive like stock regardless of what people in the internet claim. It'll also be more prone to failure for various things because it's more strung out. Would be a riot, but there's risks for reliability.

The thing I look for is the brakes. Z51 cars got larger drilled rotors, and most people replace like with like.

Clearly someone could put those brakes on a base car, but if you see smooth rotors, you know it's not a Z51 or someone cheaped out on brake replacement = :nope:
