I guess by making the ICE car hideous, it eases the transition to toasters?

You’re actually about to hit bottom. But that’s fine, soon the F gen will be shooting up in value because they are all ragged to shit. Just like the E30 gen ...

The DCT in Brad's Z4 was fine, I'll always prefer three pedals, but a DCT of that caliber is acceptable.
Miles ahead of the VW DSG in the Mk6.

I think mine will hold a little value, but to a niche buyer.
F30's are generally much higher mileage and are ragged.
E30's are on the brink of trash it, or needs almost a full restore to make it nice.

Agree to disagree. I really didn’t like it. It had a shit Ton of dct downsides.
Low speed clunks that made it sound like it was broken. No parking setting.
really odd quirks around town where the clutch packs would get confused and bob your head as if you didn’t know how to drive stick ... dsg did it too but much gentler.

Yea I mean ... I’m in my 5th “bmw” ... I do have to say that the m3 was Def my favorite but it didn’t come without downsides.

I trust the mini a lot more and after all that’s the one I “bought” vs rented. 90% of the fun at 40% of the price and operating cost and 0% douchebag factor

I don’t mind it... better than I expected. Curious about the weight with awd etc...
The last gen was actually lighter and way faster than the predecessor.
The 3 series as whole looks way better and aggressive than the new 4 series, and that carries over to the M models.

Looks same to me... minus the doors. I prefer the 4 door as it is far more functional, weighs less, is shorter, cheaper and performs the same

Trust as in anticipate more reliability?

Also, the stigmas never bothered me, but when I got the 328i and seeing the DIY YouTube videos, and seeing the forum posts, I realize I'm about 10 years too old for the car's average "second owner"
It's hard to find technical information, but I can find 500 YouTube videos of some shit in a flat brim hat "vloging" from the shop while someone installed their brake pads.

M cars are terribly unreliable and incredibly expensive when it comes to "consumables". The 30k mile service for the M3 was 3k... + 2k in tires... that's 5k in maintenance every 30k miles... yes it is possible to DIY, but everything on the M motors is way more expensive. Plugs/filters etc are all multiples of what a regular one costs.
Hell the battery was $1800! $1800!!!!!

https://www.bmwpartsdeal.com/parts-list ... ttery.html

Ima let that sink in...

parts are hard to come by and not really interchangeable which creates a bit of a distrust to the vehicle. The 328 in comparison is super easy because they made a gazillion of those engines and everything is documented and has a solid aftermarket.

I never even went to the bmw forums, they were completely useless. Just rolex bragging... etc.

3 series curve is a steep downward drop over the first 15 years, bottoming out at $3-5K for decent examples, then slowly climbing back up to original MSRP for clean/more unique models.

Maybe I'm :wrong: but I think these are both pretty good looking cars, I've always loved the look of the 3 series. I could live without the grill, but otherwise it's rather nice to me.

Yep. It is interesting that E36s were all ragged to shit which is how I got mine for $1900 and then sold for $4100 after fixing it up... nowadays a clean E36s is really starting to climb quick.

I bought my E46s knowing that but I couldn't wait 10 years because the car was just too unreliable to keep for that long. Never again. You also can't drive them... you have to keep miles well under 80k in order to preserve the value...

The grill really is the letdown, and the aftermarket will have a field day with this.
