Same exact comparison if you ask me... minus the whole back seat thing which frankly doesn't matter for most looking for a sports car, and then there is the G37
Yours was similar but these two are even closer, which is kind of crazy since they're 30 years apart. Almost everything is the same. Admittedly the later euro spec E30s were both lighter and more powerful than what we got in 'murica, but you can get that from the aftermarket on an 86 too. It's the car that people say they want, but it has the wrong badges on the front.

Well the E30 just has cult/historical status, it is very difficult to separate that from actual car performance.
More extreme example would be I suppose a racing Bentley from the 20s, Yes your car is better in every way but people still put that performance on a pedestal because it is from way back when from a time with horses.

Yep. All I can figure is that most people, including those who own them, have never driven one. Drive an 86 and you're getting as close to that experience as you can get - and you probably won't want to buy one at $30k let alone $200k or whatever the hell the roundels go for...
:howdareyou:

There is a lot to be said about newer vehicles that can't be easily captured in forum bro jerk off fests online.

I am willing to bet that the 86 is better in every single way.... every one
No rattles
Far more reliable
same speed/handling
Better mpg
better interior
more features

:iono:

where is it worse ?
racing pedigree and history... but :whocares: for a street car. 86s are also far better selling than any E30 m3 ever were. 18k total made... that's like annual 86 production isn't it?
In a lot of cases I'd argue that you do get something more out of the driving experience of an older car as they have that "raw" feel to them - they don't have things like numb clutches/shifters, shitty electric steering, rev hang, etc... but the 86 honestly avoids all of that stuff. My favorite thing about it is that it feels like a car from the 90s but has new car reliability.

I'd probably have an 86 if I lived somewhere with roads that turned and were somewhat smooth.

When we were out in SB all I could think about was bombing something like an 86 down canyon roads. I'd buy one if we lived out there.

I'd be ok with a lot of things on this list.
Me too mah :wap:

But we are weirdos.

I mean, I chose my Beemah specifically because it lacked modern features like touch screens, sun roof, automatic trans, etc. I prefer driving my '03 shit box.
:mahman:
I purposely chose my :turboyaris: to not have leather or Nav. And for my next car I :aintcare: about AA or ACP or blind spot assist or lane keeping asist, etc.

That’s exactly why I posted a pinto...
gravy days are done for now ...
A lot of us bitched about “lack of sports cars” etc, this is about to get good Bois.

Current cars have a lot of non essential shit that adds cost. Plenty of ways to cut that out.
No more leather
No more power shit
No more moonroofs
Smaller non turbo engines that are old and proven
Cheaper older transmissions
Cheaper thinner plastics inside
Shittier paint
Shittier lights
Smaller and shittier brakes
Smaller and thinner tires
Smaller footprints
Shittier infotainment no more royalties to google or Apple
Simpler dashboards
33k average price ... can be taken down to 20-25 and if the economy goes south that’s where we’re going
Cool. Does this mean Porsche will start remanufacturing the 944 Turbo as an economy car? I will take mine in Guards Red with Phone Dial RAMZ. KThanksbra.

944 is not cheap. More like some sort of golf 1.8tsi powered poorsche gayman with 180hp and 2500# which wouldn’t be that bad to be honest

Huckleberry bought one off the 'tex last year IIRC. Beige with maroon interior and phone dials?

I'd be cool with a modern 914. Basically a Cayman with a VW 2.0T? Works for me.

Modern 914 should be a competitor to Troys 86, so more like $35-40k maybe?

I feel that since I built a Type 1 Beetle 35-ish (!) years ago I'd do well with a 914. Many parts are interchangeable with a Beetle and I still kinda :member: those air cooled beasts.

Meh. For better or worse I'm locked into this car through at least 2025. Maybe I'll be in a position to get something special when I turn 40 in late 2025. Until then it's all Toyota all the time.
