They are within 3-4k at the moment. My "cash" is just sitting at a lame ass 2% interest right now. So it is negligible.

The FJ is pretty cool and original, not sure if its very fun on road but off road they are probably tit for tat with the exception of the open roof thing.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 1:27 pmTo be 100% honest I am not sure if I have value in the JL. It would be a bit of a compromise as it would be a 2 door soft top with but not 100% set on that yet. The FJ has a really nice size and form factor for me, as I don't really need a 4 door but a 2 door is a bit too small.
That said... Lets just assume I get 6k off sticker... 28.7K +TLRetc ~ 32k I will likely own it for 2 years tops. Given my life. That'll make it around 25k trade it tops... so around 7k + more expensive insurance but its negligible.
to compare with a 13k FJ, it'll need about $1300 ttlr, ~ 14.3 even if I get nothing off... so it'll be worth 11/12k in 2 years I don't expect it to go anywhere. +2k in repair and maintenance... so.. it'll cost about 1/2 of what a JL will run. Granted the JL will be a brand new vehicle.
But what it goes down to is where I see the value. This is a toy, will I get 2x the fun out of JL over an FJ, is the real question. Not necessarily the cash outlay.

Open roof is decent. I have to weigh it against driving with a tent above my head for most of the time... to get TO/FROM the off road spot... I am on the fence about that piece.Tarspin wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 3:33 pmThe FJ is pretty cool and original, not sure if its very fun on road but off road they are probably tit for tat with the exception of the open roof thing.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 1:27 pm

So... I'll be taking a look a 16xk mile Fj that is listed at 13k this weekend if it is still around. It is a cali car with maintenance records (shitty but it's something) dating back to day 1.
Will report back if this is futile.

I don’t mind it. I liked how it drove over a which is a selling point to me. The size is also a selling point, it’s bigger than a too small 2 door and slightly smaller than the 4 door.

Makes sense. Excited to see what you end up in either way. Hoping when it happens we can make an off-road trip together at some point.

Relisted @ $11,400 yesterday
Today @ $11,600
There is a white one next to my house with 63k miles with maintenance records from Beverly Hills and Huntington Beach and a single owner... listed at 14.9k and it’s a year newer.
I may check it out later... and kick the tires

They are stupid AF but they are good looking and comfortable as hell, basic drivetrain w/o supe is ok, and then you just have to pray that you don't have to get fucked for parts.max225 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 4:40 pmDude wentDesertbreh wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 4:02 pm

Yea, engine goes from 239 to 260 hp but it loses 8lb ft of torque. And frankly who cares about hp in a brick ? I want the torque. That’s pretty much it... engine becomes a bit more complex with second set of variable valve timing ...
most say it’s imperceptible.
The real gain is the fender reinforcement. But that seems like a random problem as is

Just drove a 2012 with 8x miles. Blue one posted.
Drove much better than the 2007. Felt like a bit better torque curve actually perhaps due to the secondary valve timing.
Also far less used up feeling... womanz and me both really liked it ... the price was drugs though at $28k... reduced from 30k
On TIGER PAW tires and had a chipped windshield
