Apple maps lets you cache stuff offline. It'll give full directions just won't do traffic updates. I cached maps for Slovenia and Croatia. When I got to those countries I turned my phone to airplane mode, plugged it into the VW Polo, and carplay gave me excellent turn-by-turn directions with no cell signal.
This makes onboard nav with outdated maps completely pointless as it's the exact same idea but better and more up to date mapping.![]()

Whenever I'm going somewhere I know won't have reception (northern MI), I download the map to my phone so I still have all the data. Works 5/7.
I use Android Auto every time I get in the truck. It's on my requirements list at this point...but IDGAF about the screen size or whatever, I just want that feature.

Ah, woops! I used Google Maps, not apple maps. Shit I haven't even opened apple maps in like 3 years. But yeah, google maps cached does all nav, and business addresses, just won't bring up reviews or traffic. Its constantly-updated, and as such, renders any manufacturer-specific and therefore unsupported navigation system totally pointless.Detroit wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 1:58 pm

The main issue I used to have is... when you "search" for a place on apple maps. Sometimes it doesn't find it. Google has fewer issues in that regard. But the latest update on apple maps got a lot better.
I have used apple maps since the inception and where are today and where we've come from is

yeah, if you're really worried about it you just make up a fake gmail account and tie nothing personal to it. They already know the kind of porn I'm into, so what am I hiding?

Okuurrr. I do what I can to stay off those services that knowingly steal it. So it is what it is. I refuse to use androids for a reason. I know apple does it as well, but they at least made attempts to safeguard you from the Evils out there. Others don't seem to give a shit.
