That whole project has gone sideways due to incompetence from our contractor who is now officially a FORMER friend. Rather not discuss much, unfortunately.
This weekend has been the doing things as we add dirt to our sunken back yard by taking dirt from a friend's house who has too much. Here's a shot with the garagemahal in the background, somewhat finished.

Yikes. That’s why I’m always hesitant to take in favors from “friends”. Because they end up treating it as a favor and not something as serious.Detroit wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 7:32 amThat whole project has gone sideways due to incompetence from our contractor who is now officially a FORMER friend. I don't think it really works out anywhere.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 5:51 pmTrades never work out in the legal biz either. 0/7 do not do any longer after same sorts of shit.
I've hired 11 of my "friends" to work on my team and 5/11 have taken advantage of our relationship and therefore are no longer working for me.
Puts you in a very awkward position having to fire someone you know and like otherwise. I won't do that again.

That's what the other 6 have done and we're talking about people I've known and worked with back to 1994. The remaining friends work hard and get shit taken care of and almost never have to ask me for anything because they know the answer I will give them. In return I never question their vacation requests and make sure to give them large raises every year.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 6:27 pmI feel like I would do the exact opposite, work above and beyond because brodeal but I am apparently not doing it right, per the usual.CorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 6:14 pm

I guess there's always going to be a few flakes and punks when you get to 10+ people though.

"Friend" we met when we hired him to do our last house. We liked him so much and he did such a good job that we started hanging out on the regular as friends. When it was time to do the garage, he seemed like a no brainer, though we did source multiple quotes just in case.
It's snowing right now, I just put a handle on the human door so it would latch shut. There's only one base coat of stucco on that won't cure because of the moisture and cold. All the trim is wrapped in paper for the stucco, which is getting destroyed because of moisture. We're still missing 4 windows, so while paper is covering the window openings, keeping snow from getting in, it'll only last so long.
We're a full 2 months behind schedule. We told him we wanted the garage done before the snow flew, and he said no problem.
WELL IT TURNED OUT TO BE A BIG FUCKING PROBLEM.
Good news is we've only paid him 1/3 of what he's owed because we agreed in writing to certain milestones that would get the next installment. The next installment was due when all the windows went in...which still isn't done.
The thing is epic though, I just with is was done like it was supposed to be.

I do actually. My underlings who I treated like friends and family, decided to fuck me every time. Then they some terrible new bosses... and proceeded to suck their dicks without walking over them, which is when I realized I was too damn nice.
Not anymore.
