And then you still have issues like exploding fuel pumps due to the immense pressures, $1000 injectors, fancy oils etc etc. they were great engines but the modern iterations are essentially gasoline engines from 1976, epic emissions crap that takes out all of the things made diesels so great.Tarspin wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 10:57 pm The whole emissions annual check thing has been eliminated where I live so I'd consider a diesel with all the clean air shit stripped off and a tune, but even saying that is considering there are options that exist which run on 87 and get 40mpg (Civic Sport ) . Maybe a used ram or something if I needed a work horse.

A tuned and emission delete TDI would bounce back into the high 40mpgs even 50s all highway, and nobody has been inspecting them since rules changed here in 2018 or whatever, so it's an option for us currently, but what's the point with 2019 efficienct gas engines running on 87 and getting into that range. I'm pretty sure they will stop getting build in NA but the onces that linger are going to be in high demand by the die-hards.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 11:00 pmAnd then you still have issues like exploding fuel pumps due to the immense pressures, $1000 injectors, fancy oils etc etc. they were great engines but the modern iterations are essentially gasoline engines from 1976, epic emissions crap that takes out all of the things made diesels so great.Tarspin wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 10:57 pm The whole emissions annual check thing has been eliminated where I live so I'd consider a diesel with all the clean air shit stripped off and a tune, but even saying that is considering there are options that exist which run on 87 and get 40mpg (Civic Sport ) . Not sure about the EU since they measure cleanliness by carbon output, and tax it hard. Diesel motors don't expel a lot of carbon, so it saves owners that cost.

They don’t apply for discounts anymore ... also hybrids average better than diesels for the normal person anyways. Start tdi seems like a foolish thing to do. Ironically I do think it was the last great Diesel engine

Some cheap out of warranty VW thing rigged up to trigger climate change fascists would be funny but not likely cheaper or more reliable then an old Prius. Tough call, I kind of think the Prius would be a better buy and the way I'd go but the TDI would have 300 lb-ft torque and be more fun.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 11:51 pmThey don’t apply for discounts anymore ... also hybrids average better than diesels for the normal person anyways. They sort of drive similar.... both have tons of low end and are completely dead above a certain speed.Tarspin wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 11:58 pmSome cheap out of warranty VW thing rigged up to trigger climate change fascists would be funny but not likely cheaper or more reliable then an old Prius. If I knew about the drive clean program cancelation I would've kept mine this long and longer. Now that I #yolo'd I'm married to the more fun version of the same car until my extended B2B expires at least. Next car will be the most fun version of a large sedan that may or may not get good fuel economy... much driving, then it will be efficient... less so and I might get a modern day Crown Vic (the Charger/Challenger in skittle green with actual balls). My coworker got 600k kms and rebuild it with all new ball joints/shocks etc and relegated it to his wife who doesn't drive outside of the city limits of Wasaga Beach, a small town up North.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2019 12:00 amThey sort of drive similar.... both have tons of low end and are completely dead above a certain speed.Tarspin wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 11:58 pm

It essentially improves on all aspects of :wrangler: drive-ability, while the only draw backs seem to be resale and reliability. The 2nd one would concern me as you seem to have issues with every single vehicle you get...[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2019 2:33 pm Alright, so moving the WK2 chat over here.

They have competed since the beginning of time. Quite similar, but I would expect the 4R to be about 10k more for a comparably equipped used model and quite a bit slower.[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2019 2:48 pmInteresting. Comparing T4R to WK2 - WK2 is heavier and within an inch dimensionally of the 4Runner.
I figured the 4Runner was bigger.
It depends on what you like.... IMO the 4R used is way too expensive for an ancient vehicle getting 15mpg.

4R utilizes space better than the GC but overall similar exterior dimensions.[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2019 2:48 pmInteresting. Comparing T4R to WK2 - WK2 is heavier and within an inch dimensionally of the 4Runner.

WK2 is heavier but all motors are stronger and you get 3 more gears. It feels significantly quicker and more responsive.
WK2 handles better.
WK2 nicer interior by a long shot.
4R more off road oriented between articulation and rear locker.
4R also rides softer.

The MPG is a tough sell when pickup trucks get significantly MPG better despite being even more powerful, more enormous, and heavier.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2019 2:53 pmThey have competed since the beginning of time. It doesn't really matter in other states as much, but in cali a 4R MPG costs about 1/2 of a monthly payment at 15,000 miles a year.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2019 2:03 pmThe MPG is a tough sell when pickup trucks get significantly MPG better despite being even more powerful, more enormous, and heavier.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2019 2:53 pm

I have seen 10-15k on the hood on the regular. Especially come year end it’ll be quite tempting. As the wk2 is wayyyy On the long tooth.

$10k on the hood wouldn’t surprise me.
I can’t tell if that one has the gold matte surrounding the radio or not. I don’t personally like the gold color surround.
