Shot in the dark here...but did anyone ever put in a claim under VW paint warranty? Supposedly it's 12 years/unlimited mileage but I think that is for corrosion from the inside out. I have serious peeling away on my hood and on the roof just behind the windshield. Wondering whether it's worth the hassle to try to get some joy.

Paint/Clearcoat is covered 3/36.
Rust/Corrosion is the 12 year warranty, under the painted surface.
I've worked in a dealership environment for 14 years and can count the number of paint warranty claims I've handled on one hand.
I'm not worried. I don't need to buy a new vehicle. I have just been looking because I've been wanting to get back into a stick, my truck has 115K on it, and is going on 12 years old. I maintain it, so it runs perfectly fine. The biggest problem with it is the rust bubbles forming on the rear wheel arches.
So, I don't have much desire to hop back into a payment with the knowledge of a potential ongoing issue. Yes, the long warranty is one reason I started looking at GTIs, but that doesn't mean I want to get to know the service department on a first name basis.
I just called across the street to VW to see if we had anything showing in the system for TSBs or active service files with the complaint.
No TSBs active that specifically outline stalling, but there was an ECM/TCM reflash bulletin issued on 7/29.
We've got one in the shop now for the issue, though. I'll keep you posted on what they find.
Thanks, man. I'm interested to hear what the findings are.

So happened ?
I bottomed out in a really steep gravel driveway in NC/TN over the weekend (sat night late) left early AF sunday. drove home 10 hours, no stops other than gas. See massive puddle in carport Wednesday afternoon. Thats all i got, nothing dramatic.

I hope you didn't drive with no oil in the oil pan , should have had some considering how much there was...

i legit think it didn't leak until the pan cooled and the crack opened. The oil light also never came on. There is still a bit of oil in it.

My guess would be that Chris took some time off because he has read the dialogue on this page 1,345 times and decided to spend some of his free time doing something besides beating a horse to death.

Skid plates on a street car just make me
Well they do a little something. They're not totally worthless.
The OEM one should be cheap enough and it covers up the oil pan.
the oem one is about 500. the metal ones are $300 all in iirc. I dont feel i need one honestly. The metal pan should be much more robust. Im pretty in the lack of ability in the composite plastic pan.
