From what I understand, the current theory is a pump seal blew and created a vapor cloud.Big Brain Bradley wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 2:33 pmyea jesus f. If the place was run that poorly that the Alky unit went boom...maybe they should close.

They're claiming they are broke. I think the banks have no interest in forking out another $100MM to fix the shit. Half the refinery was laid off today. They're also claiming this is an extreme circumstance so they don't have to give 60 days notice of a mass layoff. So there is no severance pay.
Meanwhile they will position the place for "sale and restart by a different company." So what's the real deal here? Do they have some money or nah? Union is going to fight the fuck outta that.

I mean, magnetic drive pumps exist, and proper API sealing plans for volatile fluid services.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 2:58 pmFrom what I understand, the current theory is a pump seal blew and created a vapor cloud.Big Brain Bradley wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 2:33 pm

Still how an oil refinery "has no money".Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 3:02 pmThey're claiming they are broke. I think the banks have no interest in forking out another $100MM to fix the shit. They buy oil on the open market. Refine it, sell the products. If the products aren't worth more than the oil they're buying you bleed money. If the profit per barrel of oil isn't over about $5 you bleed money due to overhead costs. They've been bleeding for a while.Detroit wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 3:21 pmStill how an oil refinery "has no money".Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 3:02 pm

Ohhhhh interesting. I assumed most/all oil refineries were owned by "big oil".Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 3:46 pmThey buy oil on the open market. Refine it, sell the products.
