Largest production 4 cylinders...maybe ever? 3.0l in the 944S2 and 968.
But the Turbros were all 2.5l. What's even more fun is to look at the engine...it's literally half of the 5.0 V8...the valves are canted to the side.

I'm starting to look at E36s and E46s as something to daily instead of the truck. Which chassis did you prefer? Looking on CL, they seem to be about the same price any more with E46s fully depreciated and E36s coming back up because ZOMG! Trak car!

Right, also E90s are nearly at E46 prices, I would go for the newer chassis. However it is amazing to note that my 1992 E36 had 200hp, a 2010 328i also has 205/220hp. Barely any improvement in 20 years.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 3:50 pmI'm starting to look at E36s and E46s as something to daily instead of the truck. Which chassis did you prefer? E36s have been ragged to shit for so long they are going up, similar to what happened to E30s, they were absolutely cheap laughing stocks and now... ZOMG... classics. I have to say my two fav gens are E46/E30 in terms of looks.

An E46 330 would make a nice daily driver, make sure the suspension and cooling systems are fresh (because BMW) and you'll be good to go.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 3:50 pmI'm starting to look at E36s and E46s as something to daily instead of the truck. All you really need is a water pump+overflow tank. Pretty simply DIY. A full system overhaul is like $400, but suspension stuff is expensive. RTABs in particular.Apex wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 3:58 pmAn E46 330 would make a nice daily driver, make sure the suspension and cooling systems are fresh (because BMW) and you'll be good to go.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 3:50 pm

E 90 328i made 230 hp, same as NA E46 330i. That's an underrated figure though and closer to whp than crank based on 0-60 times.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 3:54 pmRight, also E90s are nearly at E46 prices, I would go for the newer chassis. The only BMW motors that made close to advertised were the turbo motors, the non turbo engines were in line with others.

I don't know if you remember but I looked at these and cross shopped them with the M3. They were 45k about a year ago in the epic blue etc... they are cars. But linebackers don't fit... My head hits the ceiling in the RC-F but not in the IS IIRC they were around 63-70k new and lexus has been throwing 8-10k on the hood of those for a while.troyguitar wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 5:42 pm Whoa. My ultimate goal is to swap a Chevy V8 into the chassis once I'm done with the Impala. I feel the E36/E46 would still be simple enough to accomplish this with relative ease without having to deal with other electrical components freaking out. I'm wondering if there is anything that would make one chassis superior to the other. From what I've read so far, the E46 tends to be more comfortable and can fit wider wheels up front, but is an otherwise similar chassis to the E36.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 3:54 pm Right, also E90s are nearly at E46 prices, I would go for the newer chassis. A couple 330s have popped up. I'm hoping the selection starts getting better now that the weather is getting nicer. I'm going to take a gander at an E36 M3 this weekend.

Absolutely will. Hopefully, it will be as clean as it looks in the pictures. Of course, I rarely find that to be the case.Apex wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 10:22 amHuckleberry wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 9:18 am
