IMO you win if you die with just enough in your bank account to pay for your funeral. The people that wind up with $4MM in their bank / stock / etc investments lived artificially poor lives.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:14 pm If my kid started helping me at 30, I would be 64. I don't want help from people when I am 64. I want to be enjoying myself in retirement or dead.

Basically. Lots of areas of the country are beautiful, close to epic nature stuff, remote, and cheap as shit.

IRL though most people get even cheaper in old age and they hold onto that coin with a death grip.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:21 pmIMO you win if you die with just enough in your bank account to pay for your funeral. Maybe. Maybe I'll turn into RayRay instead. We'll just have to wait and see.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:24 pmIRL though most people get even cheaper in old age and they hold onto that coin with a death grip.

While being his son would be a bit challenging due to nurture issues, I feel like partying with Ray Ray in his hangar between his Jaguar XJR with the "mild wobble" on the supercharger pulley and his 40 foot offshore sport fisherman with the Cat Diesels that are "running kind of rich" would be 5/7.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:26 pmMaybe. That mentality is why I bought my STI finally. I wanted the damn thing and could afford it. If all I do is save and never spend what's the point of going to a job I hate every day to make big bucks?

My poorvette cost me 2k/yr all in. And even that didn't feel great when new expenses showed up and I off'd it.
I mean, thats where I am at . Its pretty typical to slowly work your way up on income and finally be able to put in a 401k. I highlighted my income for each year in a post long ago. Ive also managed to save a decent amount (~30% iirc) of all my post tax income since I was 22.
I really just cant seem to give many fucks on a financial metric that, realistically, is design to shame (ie. be a grabby headline talking point) people that make over $100k/yr.
You think 30 somethings making under $50k/yr have anywhere near $30k saved up?

What do you expect when median household income is less than a third of yours? Only a few people have money, everyone else is

I dunno, when I was broke AF (a long time), I always put money into retirement accounts. Including my jerb in college that amazingly offered match. I had nearly $30k well before I was 30, but benefited greatly from company match (I always contributed to get max match).troyguitar wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:51 pmWhat do you expect when median household income is less than a third of yours? You should have seen the look of the when he learned he was in the top 10% of earners in the great USofA and felt "poor"
There is a fuck ton of poors. So if you average the poor's savings (~65% of the 350mil) in with the ~20% of "middle class", then yeah savings is bleak.
That in the nut shell is teh wage gap. Classic rich gettin richer.
blame the crotch fruit, and the wealthy capitalist pigs.Detroit wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:57 pmI dunno, when I was broke AF (a long time), I always put money into retirement accounts. The wage gap thing really is a big problem. Unfortunately I don't see it getting solved any time soon.dubshow wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:46 pmI mean, thats where I am at . Someone has to make less so others can make more. That will never happen.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 4:07 pmThe wage gap thing really is a big problem. Unfortunately I don't see it getting solved any time soon.dubshow wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:46 pm
