True luck is rare. What many might call luck is really generosity.
I'm definitely not going to teach my son about luck.
But it exist and some people benefit from it in their professional lives.
But luck only pays off if youve out yourself in the position for it to.

Bryan Cranston had a great story on what he calls luck with regard to how he got the Breaking Bad role.
"He did seven seasons on Malcolm, and hated to see it go. But the show's cancellation turned out to be a very lucky moment.
Bryan Cranston: Had "Malcolm in the Middle" been picked up I would not have been available for the pilot of "Breaking Bad." And right now someone else would be sitting in this chair talking to you. Not me.
Luck – both good and bad – figures a lot in Cranston's life and in the memoir he's just written. It is published by Simon & Schuster, which is owned by CBS."

Yeah, so replace the guy who left, or promote lead to manager and hire someone else to fill a lower level spot on my team. Don't just expect everyone to work 12 hour days and come in on weekends from here on out.Big Brain Bradley wrote: ↑Wed Sep 26, 2018 1:49 pm
this is acceptable for a time, but not long term.
I feel like "hey, you're great at what you do so can you take on some extra responsibility/hours filling in as lead while also working your current role while we work to hire a junior you" is great but "hey, manager left so we're going to save $100k/year by not hiring anyone but you get more responsibility" is .
Jobs man... I'm still feeling pretty bummed out about leaving SSL. Getting to just be out in the world doing my own thing the way I saw fit was pretty rad. Hopefully the new company ends up being good.

I found $11 the other weekend walking from my car to a bar, so I bought two beers with it
I guess I "created an opportunity" by parking where I did, when I did.

People dismiss luck as a mental tool to help them and it's great. Take even the thought of luck out of your head so you work even harder to succeed. I like it.
Problem is when you start demanding or announcing that it doesn't exist at all and claiming others are wrong for pointing out it's existence

the quote is not about random short term gain or loss, but more about long term patterns.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Sep 26, 2018 4:42 pm[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Sep 26, 2018 4:06 pm

You know it was his luck to drop it while searching for spare change to tip the cab driver.
We're all very "lucky" just based on the pure fact that we were born white males in the United States. It's definitely a thing.KYGTIGuy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 26, 2018 4:50 pm People dismiss luck as a mental tool to help them and it's great. But, it's true that long term trends are generally more created by the individual.
