For your own vehicles, don't include the spouse crap because
Factors to consider are NOT monthly payment as it is irrelevant unless it is a lease.
Depreciation (you can figure this part out by estimating when you'd sell/scrap the car
Maintenance
Wear and tear
MODZ you blow money on
Insurance
Gas
I am at ~1100 a month which is pretty highish since I only have 1 vehicle.
What is your monthly automotive expense?

No maintenace costs so far. $140/month for insurance, and around $200/month in gas. Voted $400-500 since $300-400 didn't exist, but I probably should have voted <$300 since I'll obviously make money when I do sell.

The Z06 payment is around $240/month. Insurance on car and truck is about $170/month. Bike insurance is liability and only about $130 a year. So I don't really even count that (bike and truck are paid off, and the truck only cost me $3K). I just spent money on the car with tires, headers (and ceramic coating), motor mounts... Which is sort of a one time thing. The tires are about $1,500 per season (once per year/year and a half).
So monthly I spend a minimum of $410 for the car and insurance. Truck is paid for. Once every 6 months I spend on the truck for a maintenance part and/or oil. Last part was the fuel pump and it was about $250 in parts I think.

Yeah. Rich people keep themselves rich. It's not new or unique, but that doesn't make it good. I'd be embarrassed to admit to doing shit like that...Tarspin wrote:Business owners can write off transportation in every country in the world. USA included.

Yeah tires will probably be $1100 a set, but not sure how often I'll be needing to replace them. About to get them rotated this weekend. Mods so far has been $350 for that new bumper.. divided by 10 months of owner ship still keeps me in my original bracket.

Well you kind of chose to ignore an important factor, discretionary or not they are your expense. Everything is "discretionary" since you can uber or bus.[user not found] wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 2:49 pm Truk: $423/mo, paying $475/mo
Miata: $100/mo, paying $200/mo plus random large lump sums until it's 100% paid off
Insurance for both: $178.45/mo
Gas: $222.43 spend over the last 30 days
Total: $1075.88
Mods are discretionary and not part of my transportation budget. Maintenance is inconsistent and high due to the acquisition of the Miata. I've spent $3,731.35 on mods and maintenance in the last 6 months.
It's a hobby.
Also, payments are a bit irrelevant, as this isn't 4 square games. Truk is probably more expensive and Miata less as it is fairly depreciated.

Shit like what? The business is benefiting from the use of the car so it has to pay to use it.troyguitar wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 2:53 pmYeah. Rich people keep themselves rich. I get they are hugely important to your budget, but for this exercise, I am just looking to see what we all spend on your cars. Some who bought their cars in full have 0 monthly, this evens the playing field.[user not found] wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 2:58 pmI still included the mods/maintenance amount. If you add it to my monthly total, my monthly spend is $1700/mo.max225 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 2:55 pm

And payments are absolutely not irrelevant. I don't budget for depreciation, I budget for monthly outlay. Instead I just try to not buy cars that depreciate like rocks or ones that have already depreciated.

I went $400-500 because I spent $410 min on cars with the vette payment and insurance for all my vehicles. I live close to work, so I can go almost 2 weeks between fillups on my truck with a 26 gallon tank. Mods are pretty much counted as extra cash and not really a monthly expense.

Gas is around $250
Insurance around $100
Modzzz/maintenance around $100
Depreciation around $100 if I keep it long enough, more like $200 if I don't. Call it $150 to make the total an even $600.

OTD $30,900
Depreciation neighborhood of $14-15k
$30,900 msrp
$2,080 maintenance
$2,090 wear and tear
$2,100 modz, inc labor as some not diy installed
$1,388 insurance
$7,080 gas
= $45,638
I have the car total of 46 months now so
$45,638/46 = $992

Car: $38k OTD - $30k trade = $8k spent = $363/mo
Insurance: 900/6mo = $150/mo
Gas: lol? 1.5 tanks a month @ $45/tank = $68/mo
1 oil change per year @ $60 each = $5/mo
Registration $70/year = $6/mo
No maintenance, no wear and tear yet
Bought winter rams for $1400 / 22 months = $64/mo
So, $656? Am I DIR?
**Edited for OTD price**
