This is an accurate commentary. TBH, I have to just leave the money/real estate threads anymore. This place will really make one feel like the world is ending, until you raise your head, look out at actual life off of the internet, and realize, it's going to be OK, man. Some members work hard to rain on what used to be my eternal optimism.

The size is definitely a consideration... S2000 as an only car might be even stupider than C5 as an only car, but man, do I hate the scrape. I could just buy a Fiesta ST and keep the C5 now, but that seems frivolous. I guess I could get a used Honda Fit and keep the C5, but that seems depressing.

:notsure:

There just aren't that many vehicles that I really want to own/make sense for me.

I want small, :manuel: , RWD, and somewhat livable day to day. I think the FRS really would be the best thing for me, but man, what a downgrade from an LS1 to a turd motor with no powah. At least the S2000 is interesting while being slow.
If I were in your garageless shoes I would but the FIST or even a FOST or even back to a GTI and just sell the phallus outright. Let's take a poll:

1. Detroit: C5 is in garage, special day car.
2. Waxer: Same
3. Acid Same, although often modfied for Auto X with JB Weld.
4. Me Same
5. Melon Same
6. Troy Always had the vibe backup, now enjoys the scrape free life.

You are the only guy who has to turn the key on his Corvette to go get beer and Fritos, and its' parked outside. Why don't you just get another one (upgrade at that) after you do the inevitable with your woman, buy a bigger place, etc. Get something you can enjoy that is a flexible DD. It's not like driving a GTI sucks, I still miss mine.
Plenty of fun cars out there that are at least quick and entertaining without being anus shattering and bottoming out on KFC driveways.
Griffballz seems to like RWD and :manuel: so I'd continue looking for something in that realm. Mustang/Camaro, 370Z, BRZ, Miata, Porsches, etc. Some may be a downgrade in power or outright handling but an upgrade in DD ability and calming of the :tits:

I don't see the downside, honestly.

This sums up my point perfectly. Selling a sports car for another sports car for "better DD" is folly.

A "hot hatch" would for sure be the reasonable move. Could even get into something a little better, a 235i M Sport is only like $25k. I don't think I would take a BMW to the track though... such time bomb.
M235i was a nice ass car. It would have been great with a manual. It was fast, comfortable, nice inside, great stereo, decent sound. Wasn't tons of "fun" like my STI is but eh? I test drove the automatic. Which probably would have been more fun in "oakley wraparound shades bro mode" instead of "secretary driving home from the office" mode.

My :poorvette: scrapes sometimes, but it's hardly regular enough to cause :rage: Often times, I can't even tell.

I guess if you lived in an area with a lot of steep driveways or whatever, that would get annoying. But I feel like if it's that bad, ANY sports car will do it. And that's my point. S2K is just a :plac: move, nothing else. And that's fine.
Nah man... Detroit is flat as fuck. California is not. North Carolina is not. Yes, my air damn scrapes. The metal frame things that stick down between it also scrape everywhere. The bumper occasionally even scrapes. I had the center of the car bottom out on a parking deck ramp.

Max and I are the only ones here who have ever actually DDed these cars and seem to be the only ones who are realistic about how bad the ride/scraping it.

You live in a city that is totally flat and the most sprawled suburban set up in America with massive parking lots everywhere, wide, open roads, etc. Most cities aren't like that.
:dat: did 6.5 years in a C5, 3 of which were a DD, every time I'd have something a bit more tame, TDI/JGC I would CHOOSE to drive it over the Vette. Same as everyone else. Which is why I sold mine... It is a SHIT DD, loud, uncomfortable, scrape town USA gets hot due to clear roof, shit turning radios, shit visibility, etc. All the things that make it a great sports car make it a shit DD, the balance isn't there.

The 370Z on the other hand is a better C5 in every way at a similar price point. But yea... I'm :wrong:

I'd probably rather have the Z. :iono: It's fast enough for me with "only" 330 HP. If I didn't convince myself I needed a rear seat I would have seriously looked at them.

Also newer, lower miles than my vette.

True points though.

What about good old fashioned :plac: though? Is that not acceptable around here anymore unless you're buying a $40k :truk: ?

What used to be forum where members focused on fun has now turned into a depressing psychological stew of real estate depression. Airboaters with potfiller palaces hating on guys for wasting time with river rock. Guys who used to own 944 turbos now drive electric pods to work and trade hobbit holes for yellow hobbit holes with upgraded kitchens. No crotchfruit? Why have freedom when you can obsess on another trip to home depot and being in the "right" part of Detroit. Sounds hilarious just saying it. And then let's not even talk about the conversion to Petersen's 4 Wheel and Offroad forum. Because crumbling infrastructure has made everyone a Mad Max character.

The scrape and the woman hate is killing you, the Corvette is a highway and track star, not a vehicle suited to around town duties.....at all, unless street racing is your thing and even then, the C5 needs some upgraded hp to stay relevant today. Try something else.

I gotta say, the biggest problem I have with your proposed move is losing the unsung utility of the Corvette hatch for pretty much no storage. If you're ok with that, go ahead.

What's the market like for a nicely kept RX8? And additional to prep to STX levels?

Four years ago before buying the Corvette I test drove a 2008 that was listed at $7,995. They're cheap. Definitely :plac: profit on the table from the C5.

$10k buys a good one pretty easily, only a great low mileage R3 is over that. STX prep adds nothing to resale, but an 80% "build" is around $2500 in parts.

To an extent, it's just aging and maturing. I joined the deadzone when I got my MK6 at 27, 5 years ago now. It's amazing how much can change in that time.

Back then, I was still carving canyons and bombing track days ZFG.

Now, I have a 443whp plastic tub that bruises Woodward a few nights a week and a lifted bro truck that I'm connected to professionally. Yea, I drive an electric pod most of the week, but now that I'm a grumpy old man, it feels good when dealing with the daily slog. Sitting in miles of bumper-to-bumper sweating my ass off in a cheapass Corbeau fixed-back seat bolted straight to the floor of my AC-less 944 Turbo has zero appeal to me anymore. Life is way better now swapping properties in Detroit and embarrassing new Mustangs on the street from time to time. But I've also grown to appreciate the sports car lyfe as just a fun thing...it's way more enjoyable that way.

We're just a forum that realizes the side effects of certain vehicles in certain situations and we point them out, this isn't some call to revert to driving a 150k mile prius, but not acknowledging how shitty of a DD a C5 is and looking for something "else" is going :fullretard: keeping your eyes open for better options leaves room for continuous improvement.
Poster Phi Delta Griffbalz was looking for sympathy. I gave him some at the expense of Brad and Chris. How am I going to pass that up? And while there is no question that there is a lot of moving on up here, George Jefferson, there is also a more republican flavor to the advice on this forum from dayz of Stage 1 or 2 :bruh:
No Republican here. My M2 is blue LOL :) I hate trucks and Minivans. No family needs 6klbs of Van/truck for 1 brat, 2 overweight parents and a half ounce of nutmeg from the market lol :)

Pretty much all I was saying. Still want a 951 with A/C working doe.

951's are reaching collectible status, especially ones that are well cared for with crazy things like working A/C.

I'm sure glad I had mine when I did. Still one of my favorite cars yet.

@dgriff I sold that car because :tits: hated it and I didn't drive it much...the regret has been lasting, just saying.

Your laissez faire F-14 flying, multiple Esprit turbo/Mcar owning crotchfruit free European Formula 1 groupie existence is a special brand of elitism all it's own.

Base 996 is also down around $20k for a decent one but they seem like more work and less reliability than the base 987. I think I'd go Cayman over 911, and definitely over S2000... but I also don't like convertibles so I'm :wrong:
