2005-2007 only for the timing chain guide issues. Solved with a revised chain/guide.

Could start my own terrorist cell with it

If you're considering a Land Cruiser, why not a GMT800 Tahoe desertspec? Same size, same bulletproof reliability, easy to work on, cheap to keep going, capable enough for what you want, etc?

Fair point, the GMT800s would do ok, but I can't get over the stigma around here, it is them and the Expeditions. Just plain
If this had less miles I'd probably give the guy a call... 171k and 40/50% of original MSRP arg..

ANY old SUV has a stigma these days doesn't it? In SoCal, there were plenty of Guadalupe's driving 4Runners and whatnot.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 1:58 pmFair point, the GMT800s would do ok, but I can't get over the stigma around here, it is them and the Expeditions. Just plain

Might be worth a call to check on maintenance records? Seems like a crangslist ad.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 1:58 pm If this had less miles I'd probably give the guy a call... 171k and 40/50% of original MSRP arg..

It is nice... but 15k.... 17 years old and 170k miles I can't get over that... that's a bit much for me.Apex wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:04 pmMight be worth a call to check on maintenance records? Yea it is pretty bad. The WJ technically works best for me as it is relatively cheap, has a decent 4x4 system reliability etc. WJ>GM800 for me. I like the land cruiser mainly because it is still relatively affordable, and having driven one, it rides pretty damn nice and thanks to the rarity due to its original insane pricepoint they are not in the poors hands just yet.Detroit wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:01 pmANY old SUV has a stigma these days doesn't it? Guadalupe from Poverty Illustrated has the following comments:
1. No rigs with bad paint. If you want stigma driving around in a car with fried paint makes my rig look like a Cayenne.
2. I like your Land Cruisers, but you need to up the ante to bring down the mileage a little. How much are 125K mile Cruisers?
3. That Toyota Pickup makes the most sense from a capability/reliability standpoint but how are you going to ferry the AZN around Napa in that? Rides rough, is a pickup when trucks are stupid and pointless
compared to SUVs, poverty booger and dead skin interior.

2. 125k mile Landbruisers are closer to 20k... which is not ideal, since they will continue depreciating rather rapidly and it doesn't make financial sense.
3. AZN's dad has a Taco, and she likes Tacos (not the food) so that is a non issue. BMW would remain a Napa mobile. Truck would be on my occasional work commute/shitty city trip/roadtrip vehicle. Agreed on the pointless part, I have little use for the bed. The main selling point to me would be that I could flip it later on for nearly what I got it for, reliability etc.
I am not looking to keep anything forever, if I did I'd buy new, I way too much for that.

The entire concept just makes zero sense here. It’s just another one of us dillusional for something that doesn’t exist.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:09 pm Guadalupe from Poverty Illustrated has the following comments:

Which part doesn't make sense? This is not replacing the BMW... supplementing.Detroit wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:13 pmThe entire concept just makes zero sense here. Speaking of I did think about getting out of the M3 and into a lease. the issue is... miles. Road trips+ my daily drive I'd be at 20-25k a year... that's not going to work financially. I know I'd be getting out of jeep for something else in 12 months or less. So "buying" one doesn't make any sense.

I like your idea of the M3 lease with an inexpensive off-road type toy. Just finding something that fits in the 10k range that you'd want to own is a difficult proposition.

Agreed it is. Personally, I think 10k is a fair amount of money... I am a bit surprised there is nothing more decent in that category. I am willing to go as high as 12-13 for something that i REALLY like.Apex wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:19 pmmax225 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:17 pm Speaking of I did think about getting out of the M3 and into a lease. the issue is... miles. I don't see how a rav4 that's got a 275 hp V6 at 3600 lbs or whatever is so miserable or embarrassing compared to a rusty old 4Runner. Obviously I don't get it because hiking is what poor peasants do to get to the fucking market, not a god damn hobby.max225 wrote:Agreed it is. Personally I think 10k is a fair amount of money... Because you want something that doesn't exist.
It's like me wanting something V8, comfortable, and :manuel for $20k
Or Troy wanting something with a 10k redline, 2.5k lbs, sequential gearbox, and dual auto climate control for less than $10k
Or JP wanting something the size of a Suzuki Samuri, but nice inside with a decent trans, and enough space to put a bike inside for $20k
All of us have these impossible requirements for vehicles that makes us and compromise.
To me, I don't see you taking a poverty vehicle well. Anything old will be poverty. You've limited your search to two vehicles in total, and you just can't do that when playing the poverty game.

This is what I was saying with the Tahoe thing...these are far more affordable and just as capable and easy to work on. But how does this not have the stigma that the Tahoe does? If you really wanted a cheap offroader, you can't beat something like this.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:27 pmHOLD UP everyone...
