I don’t like San Jose, but that’s saved for another thread I suppose.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 3:56 pmI suspect that my idea of a nice neighborhood is what you would call "blah" - which place is not blah?max225 wrote: Yep, man Jose is blah though... Million is a nice downpayment yep.

My visit was brief but the whole area from Redwood City or so down to San Jose all seemed about the same. Way more suburb feeling than city, which is the exact opposite of what I was expecting. We drove everywhere and had free, convenient parking everywhere except for in parts of SF proper. No need to walk/bike/bus or fight millions of other people to do shit, it was nice... pretty much like suburb lyfe anywhere else, except with better weather and fewer and their trumptarded owners.

Right it shocks me everytime I go to LA/etc where you are forced to VALET in a city built on car traffic.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 4:51 pm

San Jose is just very busy, relatively grimy etc. It is also kind of far away from most places other than San Jose itself.
Far better areas are
Piedmont, Lafayette, Orinda I am peeking around that area to see if I can get a decent place.
Worlds best weather, decent demographics, and you get small patches of land with your house and easy enough access to high paying jobs and some public transit.
Peninsula has lost it's shit (San Jose to Daily city along 101/280). Sunnyvale is at $2000 a sq foot which is

Ah, Oakland side of things. I don't know anything about that - I suppose it's largely job dependent anyway. The best place to live is near wherever you work. Rush hour traffic was certainly in every direction. This guy works at Google so he needs to live near Mountain View. Their SJ place is halfway decent with a driveway and garage similar to ours, it's "only" $1.5M today. Besides the houses, though, everything else is largely priced in the same ballpark as it is in the rest of the country... especially if you use premium fuel. I wanted to hate it, but I can definitely see the appeal. Our other friends were also in town and they're from NYC, they pretty much said the same thing.
If I had a gigantic pile of money, I'd move out there and single-handedly cause the largest real estate crash in history.

Not always. It really depends on where you work for sure. But yes, it is pretty to get anywhere during rush "hour" which is really 7-10am and 3-8pm. So it is more like the entire day.. with a few "non issue hours in between" when everyone gets in/out of work on extended hours.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 5:05 pm Ah, Oakland side of things. When you say SF you mean SJ? There is almost nothing decent in SF for 1.5 unless you're ok with no gayrage etc.

Miata with a sporty engine is incredible. If the hard top from the 124 GT fits on it, you'll have the best sports coupe on the market. I'd really like to test drive one, then buy it for half price used in 2 years.

Motor-Trend long term review of the M2. Not bad overall. The usual nit-pick BS from writers. Oh its so hard to push a button twice.

I stopped reading their bullshit at this point.I drove in full-manual all the time to better choose my up- and downshifts. It was more prudent than Sport Plus, smarter than Sport, and smoother than Comfort mode.
This is true... very awkward at many points.although we grew accustomed to it, not having a park button/position and merely shutting the M2 off in gear felt weird
Also true, the DSG in the TDI is a far more refined transmission in a 25k vehicle than the DCT in a 79k vehicleSometimes the engine would rev with the car stationary, then the clutch would grab suddenly, especially when cold.
$43,700 (76%) 3 year residual is Although very HIGH it seems.

3M CR70/90 or llumar air80/90 are the high heat rejection plus high visibility options.KYGTIGuy wrote:Going to get my windows tinted. Very light shave but I want as much heat blocked as possible.
Any suggestions?
