No other stove on the market fits the openingKYGTIGuy wrote:Unless I'm missing something it goes as follows.
Contractor asked him if he was going to keep his old stove.
He said yes.
Opening was cut to fit old stove.
He goes and buys new stove without telling contractor.
New Stove is delivered and doesn't fit because it's not the old stove for which the opening was cut.
I don't see how that's on the contractor. Again, unless Im missing something
So I bought some useless junk recently...

It did kick in and the builder confirmed the non standard stove was going to be reused.Detroit wrote: ↑Fri May 18, 2018 4:20 pmStoves come in standard sizes. When they measured, common sense SHOULD have kicked in that it’s smaller than standard size.KYGTIGuy wrote: ↑Fri May 18, 2018 4:10 pm

Is it not appropriate to expect people to use their brains anymore?
If the builder hadn't measured he would have made the standard cut. The smaller cut means the builder asked after measuring it.
The point of hiring a GC is so that you don't have to think about or know about standard stove and non standard stove sizes.
Ask him to go Dutch and save the relationship if it's that big a deal.
My opinion
The old one does.....the one you told him would be going in the opening.Tarspin wrote: ↑Fri May 18, 2018 4:21 pmNo other stove on the market fits the openingKYGTIGuy wrote:

Seems like just a normal buiding issue to me. Shit happens. He didn't explain why he was asking the question and you didn't tell him you were changing the plans.
Pay half and be done with it.
My opinion guys.

GC: Hey Tar, you keeping this stove?
Me: Yeah probably for another couple of years.
GC: Okay.
Like, don't you think a little heads up is in order? If you were in my shoes would you own the custom (small) cut out as YOUR problem because you said you had intention of keeping the stove? Should it still be your problem a couple years down the road when it finally kicks the bucket and nothing else on the market fits?
What if you told a tire place to get you tires for a 2015 Camaro and then brought in 2018 Yaris?Tarspin wrote: ↑Fri May 18, 2018 4:36 pmHere's what he says:KYGTIGuy wrote:

Would you complain that the tires didn't fit.
Every job he did would take 2x as long if he had to explain why he was asking what you wanted.
Not saying he shouldn't have clarified do to the custom nature, but I'm saying th change of plans was the bigger faux pas in this situation.
My opinion. Im on your team. Just trying to give an honest opinion. I hope it works out.
I'm just glad the opening is too small instead of too big!

That's a good way to look at it, half full because the hole isn't too big. Really there are like two or three sizes of openings depending on stove type, none match the hole cut out, but yeah smaller is better then bigger.KYGTIGuy wrote:Every job he did would take 2x as long if he had to explain why he was asking what you wanted.

I am offering to pay half and got back an uncomfortable laugh. I'm trying to be a team player AND I'm paying him for some corporate items as well, custom storage shelves etc to get my weekend items and expensive parts off the garage floor and properly labeled. This should be a no brainer from his end. I mean Its probably $100-150 each.

We didn't tell our contractor jack shit about our stove we purchased, other than it was a standard size stove. Done and done. I mean unless it's some AF Viking or Wolf range, there's no reason to make a custom size opening.Detroit wrote: ↑Fri May 18, 2018 4:20 pmStoves come in standard sizes. Exactly my point.

He had a custom sized stove that he told the contractor he was keeping after the contractor asked him about it.

But even the ranges like those or the DCS that and I have are standard sizes, too. Either 30", 36" or 48", and sometimes 60". This contractor should have demonstrated some critical thinking here. imo.

Got some new bars for the RKS today.
Got them on sale, $180 which is pretty cheap. These are 13" versions and the stock ones are 9" so the rise is quite good. Will work with the stock cables and hydraulics too.
