Incredibru listing, many detail, much pictures. My patience grows thinner with old cars but this one is kind of a bucket list car for me. I say :wasteful: away!

Cannot answer poll due to too much stray markup, such confuse.

Also, while the E39 540i/6 M Sport is a good car, the E39 M5 is a great car. If you're going to go :fullretard:, fuckin' go :fullretard:

Get his ass back on here. :|
:word:

He's not all that active on the internet in general. But he is putting a set of TSW Hockenheims on the M5 with Indy 500's

The 540i sport is cheaper to run for 90% of the same experience. The better deals can be found on them for sure. They suffer much less of the "M" tax.

But I'd go m5 yolo unless a dirt cheap 540i in perfect condition fell from the sky gods.

What could possibly go wrong

Id be more worried around the 150-160k mark on those. The local nola enthusiast group has had good experience with them and the e39 m5.

This. Of course the M5 is "where it's at." If you have the massive wallet to pay for incrediby expensive S62 problems. Used M cars are for rich people. Are you rich bro? Are you?

An M car 4 yrs older then my :poorvette: ? :nope:

There is a 100+ hp gain over the 540i so it's going to be more fun for the elitist with a taste for vintage things.

The E39 M5 makes very little sense over a 540i in particular an M sport 540i... it comes with M tax for every wearable component (brakes, tires, clutch) and very little performance benefit. Also that engine is a POS, not only does it pop rod bearings and use 10w60 like every M motor, but it also has carbon build up issues that pop up every 50-70k miles that require the removal of the fucking heads and a complete cleaning with a wire brush etc... $5000 job on a $9000 vehicle.

Cons: Leaks a small amount of oil from the valve cover, could use front rotors and could also use new shifter bushings.
Yea um.. "no problems" except the $3500 of "issues" if you were to take it to a dealer or indy shop. And that's just the beginning I bet.
Shocks are probably original, as is the cluck and the cooling system.

If you were to wrench on a car... this would be a fun project for 30-40k miles before the timing chain pops.... they all do from 150-210k miles.

Timing chain has already been done. Clutch and brakes? :aintcare: shocks? Same. Cooling system, same.

It’s a 17 year old thing with 160k. These are things I’d expect to address if I were spending the money on it. They’re. All. Maintenance. Items.

So someone did the chain but didn't fix the valve cover leaks ? :wtf: :wat: that's a huge headache gone though... all other items combined cost less than 1 timing chain job.
