It's cold, windy, and going back and forth between rain and snow all day.

That'll do it. My 59k includes almost 15k of just road trips. May be why I haven't needed a carbon cleaning yet.Calvinball wrote: ↑Sun Apr 15, 2018 7:00 pm20-25 miles a day commute, plus numerous trips to Maine.wap wrote:

I've been drinking nescafe freeze dried instant coffee because it's quick. I'll put about 3 ounces of cold water (don't want to wait for it to heat up) in a glass, add about 16ounces worth of coffee and shoot it. It's thick.
It's so disgusting and I have to drink water to prevent staining my teeth but it's so efficient.
Worth it.

Equity Loan and Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) are things you should look into. Id said heloc it if you can pay it off relatively quickly (under 1-2 years). Pretty sure teh next option would essentially be a second mortgage.
They are very simple for HELOC. Often dont require a current appraisal if what you want to borrow is inline with what your house is relatively worth. They have better intro rates sometimes even 0% for 6mo.
Is it best to go through our current bank. Just browsing their site looks like 4.49% is the best rate they offer on either type of loan.dubshow wrote: ↑Mon Apr 16, 2018 10:26 amEquity Loan and Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) are things you should look into. Looks like they are all adjustable rates too. Max at 12%. Is that industry standard?
Id try to use your current bank just for simplicity but you may need to shop around for best deal. Yes, the HELOC is typically variable with about 2-3 months notice of a rate change. That 4% is about going, but seek out a hungry bank that will give you an intro rate to make it worth your while. Another reason I say keep the HELOC in terms you can pay off, as the rate can change. If you can't pay the 10k off in a rate (prime+markup) spike, dont do it. Its good for a 2 year outlook. The second mortgage is a longer term option but usually used for a bigger loan.KYGTIGuy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 16, 2018 10:31 amIs it best to go through our current bank. Thanks for the tips. We have the money we think we will need but didn't want to use it. We need to do more research.dubshow wrote: ↑Mon Apr 16, 2018 10:34 amId try to use your current bank just for simplicity but you may need to shop around for best deal. Looks like our bank (lake Michigan credit union) will switch it to a second mortage for free if something catastrophic happened.
