I, too, have been reading. I went through the first six volumes of Sin City this month, will hit the seventh in a bit after some other things I have borrowed. It was a series I never read and wanted to and I am not regretting the time spent. I want to go back and read Watchmen also.
Halfway through Artemis. Enjoying it thus far. I have Born a Crime borrowed also but haven't started it yet. Ready Player One and something else on my hold list from the library/Overdrive.
The Bookworm thread aka whatcha reading

So is it a young adult series?razr390 wrote:Started reading Scythe. It’s pretty awesome. Takes place in a uproot-like world where humanity has defeated much of its challenges including death. There is no crime, no poverty, no suffering. There are Scythes that are selected to kill people honorably to keep the population under control. So, they select people based on statistics from the “Age of Mortality”c (I.e if one out of every 100,000 people will die in a car accident, then one person at random that is driving in a car will be selected to get “gleaned”. The concept is 5/7 better than I describe it.
Story folllws two teens that get selected to be part of the Scythes. That’s how far I got so far

Yeah it seems that it’s centered toward the young adults, but it’s a 5/7 storyline so far.Calvinball wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 10:21 amSo is it a young adult series?razr390 wrote:Started reading Scythe. Finishing up Warriors of the Storm, book 9 of Bernard Cornwell's Last Kingdom series, the one that the Netflix series is based on. Five fucking seven books that tell of the Viking invasions of Britain and the eventual birth of the nation of England under one ruler. It's like the Vikings TV show on History Channel, but more historically accurate.
Next I have reserved the new biography of Leonardo DaVinci by Walter Isaacson, who supposedly writes 5/7 biographies. Should start it this weekend.

I have this and will start it soon. Ended up with too many loans at once and they are running out. Only like 20% through Trevor Noah's book and it expires Wednesday.

I saw it on the shelf at Wally-World for five bucks so I grabbed it. I don't have much to say about it TBH, it's fine so far. Decently written, keeps my attention when I have picked it up, I've just had a lot going on since I borrowed it. It is expanding my knowledge on apartheid a bit also, as expected.

He tells some interesting stories about growing up under apartheid but there's one story in particular about his mother later in the book that is , about which I'll say no more.

I learned last night that not only are there a ton of old novels available for free, but the Amazon fire tablet has a pretty cool built-in dictionary where you can simply hold your finger on a word to bring up the meaning. Not useful in general, but you can download foreign dictionaries as well... So I started reading some original Jules Verne with the French-English dictionary available for any words I might not know. Figured I might as well start at the beginning, so Cing semaines en ballon is first in the queue.
Dunno if the fact that it's 150-year-old language will bug me so at some point I might change it up to more modern text. If it's anything like reading 19th century English vs having a conversation today, then the old French might not be that useful in getting comfortable with modern language.

No idea about 19th century French, but Jules Verne is 5/7. In the middle of "I Hear She's a Real Bitch" by Jen Nagg.
Has actually turned out to not be what I thought it was going to be. It was suggested to me by a female industry professional. I expected it to be very GO FEMALES! But it's been much more about building a business (specifically in the food industry) and the dynamics of staff. Jen Nagg opened and owns The Black Hoof in Toronto. She has written really well on receiving bad reviews, asshole staff that you trusted, and how much failure is just part of it all.
Written recommendations from Anthony Bourdain on the internets who I absolutely trust for book recommendations. Has been 5/7 and would recommend to even males.

Started reading The Making of Stan Laurel, a biography of one of my all time favorite comedians, concentrating on his early life in northern England. Also in the middle of an audio book called Victoria, which is a biography of Queen Victoria. And today I picked up a book on CD from my local library by Andy Weir, the guy who wrote The Martian, called Artemis, which is some sort of a crime novel set in a city on the moon. I'll start it some time next week.
The 2 biographies are 5/7. I'm sure Artemis will be, too.

About 20% into Dan Brown's Origins. Annoyed. It's been all build up, barely anything has happened. And build up in the "I get it, the horse is dead, shits about to go down" way. Going to see if I can fly through it but I might not pick up his next book, I'm that annoyed.

Of course, picking it up again after my earlier post I hit the first big real thing like 5 pages later. So, it's picking up now, we'll see what my overall opinion is once done.
