I've heard tell of the MK4 being POS, but the MK5 was really nice and pretty reliable, I've known quite a few people who had/still have them.
Mk4 is the best looking golf/jetta since the giugiaro-designed originals, are they actually bad cars? I never had one but they seem like typical German cars. A VR6 one could be a neat :scrooge: DD.
MK4 R32 is a dream car of mine.

The 2.slow was one of two dead nuts reliable volkswagen engines. The other is the 2.5 5-cyl. The rest are a mixed bag overall.

It was epic in that regard. Dangerously slow but somewhat fun with manuel. The only issue i ever had were the vent flaps and the retractable cup holder, all the power equip, a/c, seats, sunroof, trans, brakes, wheel bearings etc held up perfectly.

I guess it was the 1.8T that gave it a bad reputation? Kind of surprised to hear tbh

I know that the R32 is a better car, but I think the GLI looks better. Dunno if I'd ever actually buy one :doe:

At this point, I also assume that a 200 hp 2006-11 Civic Si is a better buy in every way than a 200 hp VR6 GLI for about the same price. :iono: :doe:

Makes sense aside from refinement. They do like to catch rust more then vw products doe. It would need to get sprayed annually in this neck of the woods

My old 1999 Mk4 is still driving around on original coil packs. Dat 2.slo :doe: was dead reliable. I had 1 electrical gremlin that was fixed under warranty and since then all it's needed was routine maintenance. All that's happened other than the gremlin is drivers window switch feels like it's going to break soon, one hinge on the glove box broke (door still opens and closes fine), the AC needed repair about 12-13 years into its life, and the cruise control works intermitently. That's it. Sun roof even still works and doesn't leak.

The GLI is a close second. But the concept of an AWD launch with 450hp is :mindblown:

Ill likely never own either and I will have to deal with that fact. And if I bought one I would never have the money to tune it how I would want.

Yea my brother's Mk4 Jetta was 2 years newer than mine and his cup holder was noticeably more robust than mine and I don't think his ever broke. At least they recognised and fixed the problem :doe:

If I do, :truk: may get the axe. 50 mi/day @ 17-18 MPG will get real old, real quick.

Looking at one of these if the :dill: is right.
