Moving on to The long Way Round, the story of Obi Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and his best buddy Charley Boorman going from london to New york the long way on moterbikes.
It was a TV show too, very good check it out.

The book is not just a repeat of the show, lots of details and feelings from the two put into text. About 20% in and the big takeaway I have so far is.... they are two just normal guys that were just as unsure about how this would go as everyone else. So far its really good.

And I started another Star Trek TNG book. Of course.
The TV documentary of The Long Way Round is 5/7. They also had a sequel to it that was also quite good called Long Way Down. They go from Scotland to South Africa. I should re-watch these.
I also watched them both, and I would like to rewatch as well. The wife can only handle so much mooterbike wunderlust content :doe:

Currently about half way through A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain. I remember seeing the movie with Bing Crosby when I was a kid but never read the book. It's actually pretty funny. Twain was a monster talent at turning a humorous phrase. It's also interesting to see his anti-slavery bias running just under the surface in this book, too, much like his Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Just finished the second and third books in this series and they're all equally fantastic. Imaginative, suspenseful, and exciting. Definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of intelligent sci-fi dripping with cool details and character development. Also, the main character is an airboater! Well, he's from a planet settled by airboaters. I think it was called Nova Accadiana.

Also, just finished reading a book that will likely have zero to no interest to anyone here, called the Beatle Who Vanished, about a drummer named Jimmie Nichol who briefly filled in for Ringo Starr on the Beatles first world tour in 1964 when Ringo came down with tonsillitis and was unable to travel. Nichol was a Beatle for 13 days and then sort of vanished into obscurity and this book tells his story from his beginnings as a local musician to what happened to him after Ringo rejoined the tour in Australia.
4/7 if you give a damn, 0/7 for pretty much anyone else here. :aintcare:

Also also, started this book the other day, written by a buddy of mine:

https://www.amazon.com/Second-Pearl-Har ... c+salecker

Fascinating story that no one really knows about, for interesting reasons. A great read for anybody interested in WWII history, with an emphasis on the Pacific Theater.

Interested in a review also. Not interested in reading, but curious if what I hear about it is true. Seems like there's a lot of "ugh", blame everything in that book.

Also, I've read so little this year. Want to work on that.

Lots of finger pointing from what I've heard of her interviews about the book.

Without getting political, I mean, what else is there to do but finger point? She ran against Trump. Like, duh.

Not write a book, not suck more money you don't need from people and not seek more attention since your political career is really over?

Back on topic, has anyone read The Glass Castle? Supposedly it is coming out as a movie and is a really good read. Have it, but haven't picked it up.

well, itshappening.gif

The mistake both parties made was not putting up an electable candidate.
Image

I mean mittens vs bammy was to electable, seemingly reasonable people that were reasonably well liked. Bammy v McCain? same. Gore v dubbau? same. Dubbau v John kerry? same.

even the Dems (as in the larger population) didn't like HRC for the most part due to obvious corruption, wishy washy stance, being in the political machine as a life carrier. Not to mention apparent SERIOUS health issues.
As far as Trump and the Republicunts.... I really feel the media pushed him to the front. One could argue that this was intentional or by accident, but either way he got to the front because of the attention they gave in in debates. And the Republicunts were too chicken shit to call an audible and basically kick him the fuck out.

There, saved everyone from reading shit book.

Side note, speaking of dropping the ball..

The LP seriously had a chance to make their presence felt, got handed a beautiful moment in the 'aleppo' incident, and failed to capitalize. :dislike:

Some of those are wallabies I think.

Also, a family group of roos or wallabies is called a mob.

I read that book several times when I was a teenager, so it's been a while but it was 5/7 and would totally recommend you read it.

In4review. I loved Devil in the White City. Both parallel stories in that book were fascinating.

Just finished Currency Wars over the weekend. 5/7 nerd book. :doomed: Just started The Cave and the Light. Not sure how into a philosophy book I'm going to get, but it's mildly interesting. Essentially a story of Plato and Aristotle and the birth of Western philosophy. Had it recommended to me and it sounded :notbad:, but getting into it a bit now I'm :notsure:.
