I thought the GTI was better in city driving.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2017 8:57 am I don't really mind it in the city You want frustration? Drive any of the baby dick turbo cars that lean hard on the turbo as low as 1200 RPM to make any appreciable power. You won't have any because the entire turbo assembly is fully heat soaked. The Mini managed to combat this nicely doe so maybe they're figuring it out. But in the city, NA power rules. And the STI makes alright power low in the RPM range where the turbo isn't ever contributing anyway.
Did you experience the herky-jerky low speed throttle problem esp over bumps? That's the only part I don't really like. That and the suspension bounce but the two are pretty intertwined.
I don't really care too much though. Like you said it's fun to get on the car and that's why I bought it. She still does fine in stop and go. Actually IMO it's better in crawling highway bullshit than the GTI was since the gearing is so much shorter it can putt around at a lower speed than the GTI could so there's less clutch action.
Never had any heat soak issues to speak of and between the small turbo and long stroke that car seemed great for my usual commute. The Uni software really helped, it made a ton more torque at low RPM and really had a ton of shove even from 1500 rpm.
The herky-jerky low speed problem is exactly what I was experiencing. We were crawling along, the roads were terrible, and I just could not get the thing to drive smoothly. I think a lot of it has to do with the LSDs. Hit a bump with one and not the other, the wheel speed wants to be different between L/R or front to back and it upsets the car. Happens in my parking garage every day when the left side goes over the hump between levels. If I don't clutch-in it'll about catapult into the elevators.
