Speed is becoming increasingly useless.
It really depends on the purpose, sometimes having a small(ish) engine and going ballz deep through every corner is fun.
Other times mashing the gas to go 0-60 in next to nothing is fun... but a lot of the modern cars are so damn fast you can't really use all of their potential anymore without facing serious jail time.

+1 ask any Mustang pilot post his Cars n Coffee smash up. Having the power does not mean 1 should use it lol Seems like anything over 250hp is overkill, almost in the US. Not sure why you would need more than the 370 or so the M2 has here. Yea you can go fast in straight line on the Bahn but more than that just gets you there .2 quicker. Hard to discern that at all. Best to have a decent combo of power with agile handling. Supercharged Elise maybe??max225 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2017 12:55 am[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2017 12:43 am

How can you even compare it to a corvette ? These cars have nothing in common.
First of, it is about 4-5k cheaper than a C5.
second it was a car designed and built with luxury safety and great ride quality in mind.

motorcycle is still good for the lolz, but I've often considered downsizing to a bike with "reasonable" power levels.

I used to feel this way...until I moved to the land of flat straight roads errwhere. Handling is worthless here...acceleration is the only hope for fun. I want to live my life a quarter mile at a time. Cam'd Ellis with the shortest final drive I can fit is ideal.[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2017 12:43 amI prefer cornering prowess to outright speed.

I thought I was going to be the only one... There's a reason they depreciated to 10% of their value.
I'd love to see someone buy one and prove me wrong.... I've been in a lot of German cars from the 90s and nothing has ever led me to believe their interior build quality was a good as Lexus at the time or even Honda for that matter.

Or even a crown vic... I have physically had plastic pieces snap off in my hand but to the defence of OP I don't know how much sun exposure that particular car had.D Griff wrote:Tarspin wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 11:22 pm Old guys can polish that old benzo till the cows come home. Such hate very wow.
I have never owned a mb from that era. Once again we're not talking about a neglected vehicle. The draw is that one can get said vehicle for a great price and that most have had very wel pampared lives.
My German experience came from a 1992 325is with 200k miles I picked up for $1900 back in the day. I don't truly anticipate this being anything like it. Either way it's just a thought I was playing with time will tell once I get closer to go time.

Sorry breh, maybe I am being uber-pessimistic about old mbs. I don't hate it, just speaking from my experience with one unit that was supposedly kept well too. The thing was a turd after all those years.max225 wrote:Such hate very wow.

Evidently from one of the BMW forums those street racers are getting off and it appears the troopers were the idiots LOL if this is true. I know one of the troopers resigned as he was the asshat going opposite traffic/wrong way on an interstate in NC. The pic of the guy is scary. Straight up Deliverance look.
- M4Miami ratted them out to save his car, kinda like robbing a bank and pointing fingers at someone else to not get the blame, of course they'll get mad. The general public overreacted to the whole situation. The state troopers seized there electronics but couldn't find a single "race" video. Oh and btw they get there cars back soon everything is settled and the troopers were in the wrong.

The Pantera is quite possibly the biggest middle finger you can raise to the rest of civilized society as you blow by in a giant wedge with a built 351 Cleveland spewing CO everywhere. I love them.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 10:39 pm Want.

I don't really see the appeal... it's a V8 with less power than Ellis, higher maintenance costs, heavier car...
And no, I don't think the is the best car ever by any means... but this is the exact same format, removable top, two seater, FR V8... I guess you buy these for style, it just looks plain to me though.

The build quality of the W140 S Class and SL class is Rolls Royceesque. Double pane windows. The best leather this side of a Jag. Heavy cars because heavy duty.

The car was a 4000lb beast with shitty gearing and the following engines (aside from the v12s):
.8 L 193 hp (144 kW) I6
2.8 L 204 hp (152 kW) V6
3.0 L 190 hp (142 kW) I6
3.0 L 231 hp (172 kW) I6
3.2L 231 hp (172 kW) I6
3.2L 224 hp (167 kW) V6
5.0 L 326 hp (243 kW) V8
5.0 L 306 hp (228 kW) V8
5.5L 354 hp (264 kW) AMG V8
6.0 L 381 hp (284 kW) AMG V8
Now add 20 yrs to those numbers and blow one of four o2 sensors (or a plethora of other fuel system components) causing the check engine light to come up every three months and presto.... you're slow.

The US spec cars have 30X hp and 33X torque... yes it is 4K lbs, but no one is calling this thing fast or comparing it to a sports car.Tarspin wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2017 1:35 pmDesertbreh wrote:

Also that engine is solid. I don't get the hate I really don't... yes O2 sensors wear out, hell Troys car needed one also.
I am not here to say it is the best car in the world by any means, but I'd be willing to bet that a properly maintained Sl500 is going to be pretty much at the factory HP numbers. It is simply not that old.
