Combined with all weather functionality (for me, that would be skiing) I guess its worth it to me just because of the total versatility of the car. And yeah when talking used there are other options just staying new.troyguitar wrote:The extra weight and drivetrain loss means that the GTI isn't much slower outside of the AWD launch advantage.Desertbreh wrote:
I don't quite understand this. How is 80 (advertised) hp not a real performance difference? And it's not just a GTI with a tune. The factory has mods to the engine that support that power bump. What other car will take you 0-60 in 4.5 seconds for less than $40K? I don't know whether R brakes are better than power pack.

I suppose, however it is hard to justify though... other than AWD there is no real performance/bodywork difference between the car.
The Z06/GS adds giant brakes /bodykit bigger tires etc... for an extra 10%
GTI/R are basically the same and the price differencial is FAR larger at 30%
Also I did some research it seems there is almost no power difference between the two 2.0 power variants, the AWD must rob some power...
The 0-60 difference comes from the AWD launch. I doubt there is any performance difference 5-100 or whatever. Because of the added weight etc.
Don't get me wrong ... i love the R... but it is just so much god damn money, and the GTI is DAMN good.

I didn't find AWD to matter when both cars had good tires ![:dunno: :iono:](./images/smilies/iono.gif)
I don't ski
- internal combustion is a better power source than gravity.
I'd probably just get a 180 hp civic hatch at this point if I had to buy a new hatch. Otherwise BMW 230i for $35k and forget about the hatch.

Not only is it an Octoberfest car, it's also a super early US spec MK6. So they were drunk ANDwhat they were doing.

People often forget that the Mk6 came out in 2009 in Europe so they were probably manufacturing them since late 2008.

I don't haul around my linebacker buddies from the steakhouse to the bar to the strip club, so NFG on doors or rear legroom. In the past 5 years I might have had rear seat passengers like 3 times. Maybe 4?maxtdi wrote:I am not doing another useless coupe... I want 4 doors. Maybe 330i... but meh...troyguitar wrote:I didn't find AWD to matter when both cars had good tires

Yeah I agree with all of your value arguments. Just with really good skiing so close, I wouldn't deny myself AWD. I mean, you have a one car garage, and overpaying for a one vehicle solution can be justified by avoiding dual vehicle costs.maxtdi wrote:I want to test drive one to make sure... I am not just talking out of my ass though... The last gen R was utterly underwhelming... compared to say a GTI and even my TDI
The other option is the JKU, but the R is 30X funner to drive the rest of the year.

Sounds like a way to waste $1000, get your car covered in vomit, then lose your license with a DUI.maxtdi wrote:Steakhouse to bar to stripclub sounds like a great nighttroyguitar wrote: I don't haul around my linebacker buddies from the steakhouse to the bar to the strip club, so NFG on doors or rear legroom. In other news, apparently it's possible to get a 5.125 final drive gear set for the S2000 plus swap the AP2 trans into an AP1. ![:mindblown: :mindblown:](./images/smilies/mindblown.gif)
9000 RPM in 2nd gear at like 52 mph.![:stig: :stig:](./images/smilies/stig.gif)

Not to mention, no back seats means someone else drives.
