Yeah I don't actually GAF about the cost of fuel or anything, I don't drive all that many miles. It's more a mental thing and "living with myself" or whatever. I legit feel bad about this shit, for better or worse. I try every day to reduce my impact as much as I can.
But I think I'm with Max here, the Type R is worth the price gap and will have similar or even lower depreciation. I think this is basically a Type R or a $20K or less car (MINI, 2 series, Si, etc.) for me depending on
I think you mean STI?
I think that's a really smart move if you can get it under 30k. That's an impressive performance machine + if cost of fuel is irrelevant then honestly given inflation sub $6 is still cheap. It has turned really really low on my expense list and I am sure it is the same for y'all.
Don't think you can go wrong with the STI at all. It'll be reliable until 100k miles needing probably nothing but oil + filters. That car at 29k seems like a total steal. Get rid of the plastic fantastic for 11k. add a little bit of cash and enjoy a fun machine for a few years.
STIs are a blast to drive and sound way better than the Hype R. It's not like it will depreciate much if any, too.
1000 miles a month
@$3.50 a gal
17 mpg is $205
@26
$135
1/2 a steak dinner less a month at the stated mileage.
More interestingly ... that's 52% MORE in fuel costs. If we were to extrapolate it out....
$12300 over 5 years for STI
$8100 over 5 years for something @ 26.

@Dan I believe my roommate and I are going to look at a Z4M in Greeneville this weekend if you want to tag along and try one out.

Under 100k. My friend isn't afraid of the maintenance. He was watching videos and reading about it. His response was "this is all the same as my motorcycles just with larger engines".

His bike even uses the same oil as the S54.
It is similar to motorcycles. The S54 requires valve adjustments (not cheap) every 30k miles or 2 years whichever comes first.
An oil change on the S54 is like $120 in parts alone. 10w60 Castrol racing oil baby.

I am at more like half of that mileage so it is not super significant. As mentioned before, I more would like to feel good about my car environmentally, spending a few hundred more dollars per year matters little to me. That said, I just need to carry on with riding my bike whenever I can, that will make a bigger impact financially and to the planet than a 5 MPG difference over relatively little driving.
This could change if I started having to travel for work in my own car, but this is looking to be increasingly less likely unless I dump my current company, hard to do given they are paying me really well and the job is chill ATM.

Let me know when you decide to go, this weekend is a bit up in the air for me at the moment, may have some free time

Yeah my friend about any of that
From one moto-bro to another.
As the only published author in a well-known motorcycle publication in the room...

Not every bean needs to be counted. Words I don't live by clearly, or I'd be rocking a Hype R.
That thing is a I haven't seen an STI (any) below $30k lately.
I am just , I really want the Type R but also don't want a car I am obsessed with and worry about either. It's a tough sell at a $40K Civic also. So this STI seems like a good compromise but it's still sort of a lot of money for a car I'm not super pumped on. I also kind of hate the abysmal fuel economy as another part of this was thinking about dialing back on track time and dedicating myself to less environmentally detrimental hobbies.
Granted it doesn't matter all that much given I don't do a ton of mileage, but most of the mileage I do is road tripping.
SO MUCH CONFLICT

Yes it's a cool car. But prepare the lube/sawdust.

Mine averaged 17 and was driven in basically 100% city. Throw highway in and you’re going to be around 20 average.

20 is impossible in an STI, it's been decided by all those that don't own them. with your

My guess would be that Chris took some time off because he has read the dialogue on this page 1,345 times and decided to spend some of his free time doing something besides beating a horse to death.
