Yeah I did that when my Focus dropped below something like $4k and saved a bunch of cash. I also didn’t give a damn about the car and knew if it was in a wreck it was likely to be totaled anyway. Minus a $1k deductible and I wasn’t gonna get shit for it regardless so buh bye collision coverage.D Griff wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 7:48 am
My wife was excited when we did that and she saved some money. The Fusion has 150K miles on it and is sub $5K I'm sure... so there's really no point, I can't imagine she'll get in a wreck more serious than in a parking lot ever anyway. Although, she does have a bad :instagram: while driving habit, but fortunately her mileage is low at this point.

It's not paid off yet. Mazdas depreciate like rocks.Johnny_P wrote:You could drop collision on the Mazda to save some cash. If it’s truly only worth $5k...troyguitar wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 10:54 am Doesn't that cost more to replace than an 86 and a 120k mile mazda3 combined?

No but you can't drop collision until the loan is paid off. At this point I think we owe maybe $1500?max225 wrote:You owe more than 5k?

Might be worth it, especially since we're not driving anyway for the foreseeable future. Making 2 payments and paying for full coverage while shit sits in the driveway ismax225 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 1:02 pmMaybe pay it off to lower ins ?troyguitar wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 12:56 pm No but you can't drop collision until the loan is paid off. Haha maybe on the Toyota. It would be pretty dumb to have the mazda repo'd with only a few payments left. I owe like $27k on the 86.

Only one payment but similar feels over here. Three cars sitting outside rotting and $700/month in insurance/payment going out the door with nowhere to go.

Unfortunately you can only get USAA if someone in your family already has it. My dad was in the military but doesn't use them so I don't have access. They seem to be one of the best.
Having gone through a number of insurance provders for quotes recently, they all seem to be doing some kind of COVID redux plan. I'm sure they're saving billions in lack of auto claims
Officially moved over to the Gecko... paid six months up front to save 18 big ones, $452 for six months with the #COVIDbucks taken off, full coverage on the and German Kamry, liability only on the 2012 Fusion as it's only worth like $3K.

Did you end up getting the new customer discount or did they screw you on that?

Yeah, I told them to pound sand if the only option was to be added to my wife's policy at a significantly higher rate than my quote was for.
Not including the COVID discount the policy is $1070/year, which seems cheap to me, it is $300 less than I was paying for just me and my cars.

Yea...just keep an eye on the renewals. Progressive increased my rate at every single renewal until the point where it wasn't a deal anymore.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 3:24 pmYeah, I told them to pound sand if the only option was to be added to my wife's policy at a significantly higher rate than my quote was for.

That's OK, still saved a ton in the process.

Yep, if they try to fuck me, well, I will just leave and get something else. It seems like they kept things pretty cheap for the wife over the yearsDetroit wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 3:35 pmYea...just keep an eye on the renewals.
