Oh, they don't know what the special edition means. That makes more sense now. It's a rare package, they likely have nothing to compare it to.
I see 3 for sale nationwide, 2 at a :dillerman: in CA for $29k and one private party in NC. Dude's asking $27k :doe: so one assumes it's worth significantly less than that.

Sell yours to carvana, then buy the rust free one in NC.

Carvana is just looking at auction results to assess values. If there aren't enough sales of these things, it doesn't know how to set the price...I'm sure that's the problem.

Did it automatically populate the special edition? I wonder if you could trick it into thinking it's a normal one for science. Not that it matters, you've got a rare car you love, might as well enjoy it.

In hindsight I'd rather have the extra $500/month than watch the car rot while I sit at home doing nothing. It was a dumb purchase, hopefully I can ditch it without too much loss. I guess I should look up the balance on the loan. We're sitting at -0.87% YTD so far in our "retirement/downpayment" fund while housing anywhere decent is up fucking 20%... throwing another $500/mo toward it might make it so that we can still never afford to live anywhere that we don't hate! :thisisfine:

I still don't understand the rationale for the 86 purchase or sale. I suggest you go back to the posts where you convinced yourself of buying it.

Selling it now seems :fullretard: to me. Nothing has changed. It is a great car :plac:

I doubt there's that many nice quality 01 S4's selling for good money at auction to substantiate a high offer for them. There's still a ton of really nice C5's :doe: and from the looks of things, C5's have stopped dropping entirely this year.

It didn't make any sense to buy the thing, you're right. Then I went from driving to not driving, so it makes no sense to keep it.

Paying $500/mo for the privilege of watching this thing rot is :fullretard: sunk cost fallacy in action.

I debate this too with our two vehicles, it's really a waste. But eventually we'll need both again, and the cheapest option really is to just stay the course.

Were you unaware of the $500 a month when you signed the papers ? I mean it seems like another move is imminent. So you're going to trade away a near brand new car that was super hard to find... and then you're going to regret it within 6 months and buy something else again... just break the cycle man.

If I remember correctly you went into a big battle with your woman to convince her that this is your forever car. This seems rather short sighted .

We're not moving. I was deluding myself with all of that talk. We're stuck in this shithole unless she gets fired. She's afraid to even ask about permanent remote work status and I'll never get a better job than hers, so we are here for the foreseeable future.

I bought the thing as a stupid impulsive cure for depression. It worked for a month or so. :therapist: would have been cheaper but I'm too stupid for that.

I think you need to come to terms with car expenses. A 30k new toyota is not the end of the world here. $500 is $500 you two make enough to absorb that. Being epic :scrooge: is a slippery slope down to used clothes and a cardboard box. I think you found a happy medium. Just as an online "stranger" I am trying to point out to you that the constant :plac: cycle seems rather odd at this point in time

You make more on your house alone than we have ever made or will ever make in our lives. $500/mo for us is more like probably $3000/mo for you, effectively, pissed away on a piece of rusting lawn art. It's a huge unnecessary expense that brings more stress than joy and has no utility whatsoever.

The original plan was to not own a car in NY. That was rational but hard to accept before 2020. Now it's the only remotely reasonable plan.

Where were you driving before the 'VID? If you enjoy driving the thing, go out and drive it, no one is stopping you from doing that but yourself. I would've just kept the RX8 all along, but I don't really :plac: like most of y'all do :iono:

My circumstances changed dramatically :doe:

When I bought that car I had a 60 mile round trip commute daily in a bunch of shitty freeway traffic. I now have zero commute and even IF I ever go back to the office here, it's 6.5 miles away and I would ride my bike like I did January-March. The blue steed was ideal for the 60 mile commute but was just a thing I had to move out of the way to access the :poorvette: once the only driving I did became trackdaybro and once a week to get groceries.

:tits: also put the kabash on road tripping in a :manuel: car, hence why we dumped the Fusion and BMW for a car we could both enjoy while traveling together.

Do cars bring you joy? Don't say no because you're here wasting your time discussing them daily.
Whether you'd like to admit it or not you REALLY LIKE the 86. You went to battle for it with the SO, you found a rare edition... and now you own it. Try to look on the bright side. Fuck the money piece at the moment. $500 will not yield any sort of joyous returns for you.

I can tell you this $500 a month on R/E gets you fucking no where, but $500 for a Hakone edition sounds pretty damn fun to m e.

I drove around to various stores 5ish times a week while :tits: car was at work, plus we used to go off separately ourselves for weekend shit hundreds of miles away leaving the other "stranded" at home on average probably one weekend a month or so. Sharing one car was possible but inconvenient at that time.

Now neither of us goes anywhere regularly and we never need to drive in separate directions at the same time. Curbside pickup or takeout maybe once a week, sitting at home the rest of the time. Sharing one car now would be easy. We could realistically get rid of both cars but the mazderp is worthless.

:dat: when I almost took the other job back in October, I was all about the Beemah as I wouldn've been driving across the state to the coast, to Atlanta, and other places in the region, frequently. BMW was perfect for that. Like Troy, I really don't need a car now, the C5 is just something I have to do track days and other fun shit. It is handy having two cars from time to time, but not a necessity. For example, I could just wait to go to the grocery store until :tits: gets home with the :jeep:

It costs too much in both time and money, all for a "season" that locally is about 2 months long unless I start driving down to Charlotte for events, 20 hours round trip for 5 minutes of autox on a decent site with decent weather and competition... They had a local event here last Sunday, it was 28 degrees out at the start. That's not my idea of fun.
