It’ll pull timing to save itself and rob you of power. And fuel economy. It’ll run, but I wouldn’t do it... I never did.troyguitar wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 8:28 pmSo it's safe to run 87 on the 86?fledonfoot wrote:

Fun fact: the FJ Cruiser requires 91.

Nah. Not on a subaru. Er well the EJ at least is a flat out nope. The FA series maybe they have better knock sensors. But I know a lot of FA20 WRX owners were reporting knock issues stock...troyguitar wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 8:28 pmSo it's safe to run 87 on the 86?fledonfoot wrote:

That was a while ago though.
I wonder if the Civic Si runs on 87. I bet it does, that motor is in everything in their lineup. Shame about the lack of automatic in that car. I really think I'd just go buy one if it had like an acceptable 8 speed or something. I could deal with a crappy black interior again if it had a red exterior. I think.

Platform sharing with another OEM perhaps?

RWD family sedans don't sell, which other OEM has that? Other than Hyundai.
Also brand new I6 ICE at a time when ICE's have peaked and are dying off like flies.
If I was their beancounter I would never green light this.

Mazda has made some truly calls lately. That diesel CX5 being the top of the heap.

Possibly.
From the article, which apparently didn't read:
Mazda has lately been deepening its ties with Toyota, which may adopt the six-cylinder Skyactiv-X for the next-generation Lexus IS and RC. With Toyota's budget, Mazda engineers could probably welcome Elon Musk to Mars with a locally sourced shrimp buffet.

Don't forget the skyactive X compression-ignition gas motor that was supposed to be the next big thing which was never even released. Mazda is apparently trying to go out of business.

They really could use an 8 speed version of their automatic if they refuse to update anything on the motor itself. The 1-2 shift in the CX5 is really pathetic. Everyone I know that has one of those complains about how slow it is. Which is too bad because I think it's a good car overall.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 12:32 pm Don't forget the skyactive X compression-ignition gas motor that was supposed to be the next big thing which was never even released. Was probably an attempt to get other OEMs interested in buying engines from them...same with that rando diesel.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 12:32 pm Don't forget the skyactive X compression-ignition gas motor that was supposed to be the next big thing which was never even released. It's too soon to tell if that's happening or not. Toyota's ICE engines are rather :meh: and old, so maybe they'll use Mazda tech?

Seems to be Toyota's mantra these day with their interesting vehicles getting farmed out to other OEs.Detroit wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 1:07 pmWas probably an attempt to get other OEMs interested in buying engines from them...same with that rando diesel.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 12:32 pm Don't forget the skyactive X compression-ignition gas motor that was supposed to be the next big thing which was never even released. Probably won't be long before a Hemi shows up in something.

Yep the sole model left standing.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 1:56 pmI don't have any metrics on how the sales were finalized, but the V6 is still a RWD family sedan and sales were up 20% from 2018.
