Cheaper to keep her. The best thing you can do is just drive the GTI until 2030. Cheaper in the long run and you’ll have the benefit of not having a shit car.
Undoubtedly the case from a net worth perspective. You have a 6 year bumper-to-bumper warranty, so expenses are essentially fixed, and you've already taken the biggest depreciation hit. If it'd be *nice* to free up a couple hundred/mo but you can still manage the current payment, I'd ride it out and start going through my by bank statements to see where there are other expenses I could trim.
Good points are good. Unless the GTI payment is preventing you putting food on the table, just keep it. You've had it a while, no? How much is owed? Hopefully it'll be knocked out soonish.

I suppose if I put optics aside the Lincoln might be a decent alternative, I should check them out at very least, 2017 MKZ is the same price but quickly drops from 22k to 7k in three years. There's possibly something undesirable about them if they tank that much. :notsure: but will research it and take one for a rip when the day comes.

IF I regain disposable income for toys again I'll consider an Elise, it would purely be to shake out all the anxiety of not having a nimble car and I'd definitely want to turn that into a track toy. My wife will hate it again but she did say that I should probably get a fun car again some day since I came back super stoked after the track day. I feel like this is all another lifetime away at this point doe,
All things in time. This is the main reason I keep the 'vette around, it isn't worth enough to really make the argument that it would free up cash, and it doesn't really ask much of me in terms of money/time (I did spend a few thousand and a lot of hours refreshing it early this year, but that should be good for a while). Hopefully you can get something down the line! I will say, while cool, the Elise is another level or three of "not daily friendly" compared to a Corvette. I think my wife would ride in it once if I bought one and that would be that.

I would definitely choose a Charger over the Lexus, but the Lexus is certainly tops in long term durability. Charger is not depressing :doe: And I cannot un-see that absolutely hideous gold Lexus you posted above Imageol:

That’s the whole point of a GTI though. Cheap and quick, just a bit of lolz to male your DD duties more enjoyable. That said the 2.5 is a good motor and makes better noises. The Jetta on the whole is going to be a lot cheaper to own and maintain, assuming it was somewhat taken care of by previous owner.

I understand the desire for lower monthly payments. How much is left on it?

:lolol: it is by far the ugliest one I've seen to date!

I would have kept my C5.5 but it sold for what I paid four years later, would probably be up a couple thousand in appreciation, and down in additional repair costs by now, but the time was right and I needed the cash flow for :haus: shit. There's no denying that it is great value for the money, probably the best choice and I'd have to consider an 08 C6 if I were car shopping.

On the comfort front a 911 or Cayman is moving in the right direction but I'm kind of :aintcare: , I took advice on the Vert styling from her when test driving a few and kind of wish I skipped it as time went on so that ain't happening again, she thinks they look better then the targa, and I saw a low low price on mine.

The trade off for comfort is a bare bones very simple and very agile car that is powered by a Camry motor which is amazing in the sense that I won't be paying stupid money to upkeep it. Just push to go button and have fun with it.

I looove the Elise, don't get me wrong. It's a Corolla motor :doe: :lolol: But it is the closest you can get to a race car or "go kart" but still have a real car. Evora seems like the sweet spot, but they are less immune to depreciating than the Elise.

The Porsches are definitely compelling as you could do everything with a Cayman/911... daily, track, date night, you name it. Similar to a Corvette but a much nicer car in basically every way. So if you have the money/ :balls: to rock a Porsche, they are pretty dope based on my very limited experience.

Lulz on the bolded! I bet it EVENTUALLY gets up to speed and then stays there for the rest of the lap. Sweet ass cars man..... hopefully some day. Not sure what my priorities will be, but right now these fit the bill. Would probably love an Evora maybe fully depreciated and pre-dented ideally.

Eh, I mean I get it. That would cover all the bases. I like the Elise idea though from Troy, it will cost you a lot less over the ownership than a MR2 and drive better.

The LS isn’t really my thing at all but given the highway KMs you’re logging, I like it.

Have you considered an American alternative? They probably depreciate off a cliff and are way less used, recent Lincolns are dope as hell if you just want to cruise and be comfy. Those interiors are :mindblown: and they look super classy.

An Impala/XTS, or 300 would be solid :doe:

I went to last year's auto show and they had better interiors than any of the Euro brands hands down.

I had an XTS as a rental once. It was alright. Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. It doesn't come close to competing with segment leaders, but it can be had cheap af. I remember it being really lazy to drive, super lazy throttle, brakes that didn't care, really quiet.

This was my assessment a year ago. Almost exactly 1 year actually, :amaze:
Rental car this week is a Cadillac XTS.

Build quality of a Ford Fusion in a fancy-wrappered Chevy Impala body. A little boaty but it soaks up bumps and freeway expansion joints really freaking well. Quieter than Anne Frank. Front seats are comfy-ish I guess. Heated and cooled. Cooled function makes the seat bottom vibrate like its some cheap airport $0.25 massage chair. Gigantic car that I have to put the seat all the way back in because there's no front legroom under the dash for reasons. The info screen is aimed at the roof. Fucking microwave buttons on the center console look horrific and show fingerprints easily.

Solidly meh vehicle but whatever at least it's a place I can doze off in.

I went to last year's auto show and they had better interiors than any of the Euro brands hands down.
Interiors in the Navigator and Aviator are fantastic, for sure. But those are new vehicles, and that's a really recent development in the last few years. Older ones were really bad...and that's there the "deals" are.

Pretty accurate summary. But if you want a rolling couch to eat up highway miles on the cheap, it's hard to beat.
