He won't get anywhere near that. Last summer, there was a 280Z that was from Nevada, completely redone with 240Z bumpers, and an LT4/T5 on Craigslist for $15K. That car sat for months on end and it looked absolutely pristine with full documentation of the restoration and build.
That guy wanting $11K for a beat car with a non-running SBC bolted in is retarded.

So, based off this quick search Craigslist listing: https://newjersey.craigslist.org/pts/d/ ... 17943.htmlmax225 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 4:34 pmRight so .... what’s your all in cost to make an ls1 one, not a 5.3 with a 5 speed. We’re talking ls1/t56 + shell etc. you’re missing tons of parts like brakes/gauges/wheels and tires etc.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 3:57 pm
Sigh...
Gen IV 5.3: $800-$1000
Gen III 5.3: $500
If you pay any more than $1500 for an LS1 longblock nowadays, you're a fool.
AR5 trans: $700
Bellhousing adapter: $400
4l60E bellhousing: $80
LS7 clutch kit: $400
Holley Terminator X standalone ECU and harness: $1000
OR convert the factory LS harness to standalone and disable VATS on the existing computer.
Radiator: $250
16" Spal Fan: $100
C5 fuel filter/regulator: $50
-6AN pushlock line and fittings: $150
Fuel pump: $100
Swap brackets and mounts: $400
Exhaust: $500
Driveshaft: $500
So, I'm at around $5900 to do the swap, and that's allocating a grand for the engine and not searching for deals. For example, I have the swap brackets and mounts already that I scored for $100, and I have a line on a Gen III 5.3 that is wrapped up on an engine stand and looking for a new home.
In order to replicate your friend's car? I have no idea because I don't know what is in it, but to just do an LS swap? It won't be anywhere near $25-$30K.
Also, hardly anyone ever recoups their modification money selling the car as a whole.
I am not saying mods need to be recouped just looking for fair market value. I have 0 skin in the game so I
The going rate for decent ls swapped cars here was 20-40k depending on body condition and swap quality.
I can either subtract $2580 from the $5900 and add $3000 (if I paid full asking price), or I can subtract the Holley standalone since that ad includes the harness and computer for a total of $3580 before adding back in the $3000 for the LS1/T56 combo. So, let's just call it a break-even ordeal. The LS1 is old news at this point, and I would prefer to do an all-aluminum 5.3 instead because I forego a small amount of displacement in exchange for better flowing heads and a much better intake.
Brakes, suspension, etc. are outside of a swap. They aren't necessary to get the motor in and running. I think the break in communication is I read your statement as "$25-$30K just to do an LS swap," which isn't the case. It may cost $25-$30K just to build the car your friend has, but again, swaps generally don't command the same price as an original car just because no one knows if any fuckery went on during the swap. If the person who did the work was a total hack, then you're potentially buying a nightmare.

I just wish I didn't have strong feelings about buying other people's projects.
Although this looks like it was quite well done.

Luckily I don't want a diesel or an auto plus it'll be more than I can afford anyway. If it had the M3 engine (or, better yet, the M5 V10) con or at least DCT that might be different. Probably not
Dreams are so much more fun than reality.
Thanks man. Would be quite stupid but epic to just buy this thing, fly over, drive cross country, then have a really cool car for a few years I hopefully won't lose my ass on. Likely a pipe dream but

is only for a few years. The disadvantage is that realistically if I have the C5 would be a lot easier to keep around than something like this Datsun.
If I Datsun'd it would likely have to go with a and then I'd probably just one car it with a Hype R for a few years.

You would probably end up appreciating the fake sport way more as a DD and not want to the thing anymore. Consider it an even trade then.

Probably. It's more of a road trip car at this point, I drive the C5 to work like 50% of the time at least. It'll be less in winter and stuff

The C5 is a surprisingly good daily if the roads you drive on aren't horrible.

I don't think I'd go as far as "good" but with the suspension raised up and a BT head unit, it's certainly passable. Honestly, the BMW was kind of a stupid purchase, but when I got it my commute was over 2X as far and then pulled the surprise

You ruined it seats don’t have the yellowed GM quality control inspector #8 sticker underneath the left side rail clearly not worth asking price.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 3:43 pmYou should see some of the reactions I've received from putting BMW seats in my dad's 64 Impala.

Of course...but pretty much all cars from that era are terrible.
The problem is, "collectors" are and want these things to be as terrible as they were when they rolled out of the plant. Improving it objectively makes it worse subjectively. It's ridiculous.
