Dads car is rolling on 245/45/20s. That’s as much side wall as a golf on 17s.
:word:

Even a :poorvette: can do the same if you don't lower the damn thing, hell 245/45/17 is the OEM front tire on a C5.
Yea but this is from the 90s where this type of thing was normal before dub culture, the current vette is on 19s with 245/35 +2” on wheels and 30% less sidewall.

Yep, I'm running 265/40/17 on the front of mine, it's really not bad for ride...the suspension is a bit tougher, but I have mine barely lowered so it's not bad overall.

I'll never go with bigger wheels ever.

New cars have WAY too little sidewall IMO.

If I wanted to :troywax: and keep the car is go with the 255/18 front and 275/18 setup of the base car. It would take a bit away from handling that matters maybe 1% of the time and add to the other 99%.

Since I DD this thing ...

Forgot to mention. Last weekend I drove through southern Texas (Laredo on Sunday, Fredericksburg on Saturday). Laredo was about 100 degrees on average and the car had no heat soak whatsoever. Huge improvement over MK6.

On the Rio Grande. MeHeCo across the river in the background.

Are you rolling on Denvers Trudy?

I got the Denver’s originally as a winter (all season tars) set by trading some older Thule roof racks specc’d for Fled’s old Fuckus (got them from him). I paid $225 for the racks and therefore paid $225 for a full set of good condition Denver’s with 9/32 tread all around.

Once I got the Denver’s I sold my OEM Dallas wheels because I don’t like directional/asymmetrical wheels). Some bro service tech from a local VW diller bought them for $850 for the set ( :mindblown: ) to put them on his mk5 GLI.

I bought a set of used (only 1,000 miles on wheels/tats) TR Motorsport wheels for $750. They were light AF and had summer meat on them. Put 3,000 miles on them (driving locally and to/from FL). I decided it wasn’t beneficial to have money tied up in another set of wheels especially since I was storing them in my apartment and had to lug them back and forth to swap the wheels at a friend’s garage.

So I’m rolling on some 17” Denver’s that work flawlessly. Aesthetically they look a bit out of place on 2.5 generations of Golf/GTI later, but I :aintcare: as I am net +$550 after 3 sets of wheel transactions.

Oh dude, I love Denvers. I had them on my MKV, and loved them. Put various grippy tires on them for track and autox and they worked great. When I sold the car and later bought my MKVI, it had Golf R wheels on it that the PO put on and while it looked neat, I kept looking for Denvers to replace them. I liked the comfort and piece of mind from the 17's, and the Denvers took a ton of abuse. I sold the car when I moved to Detroit and that was the end of my VW ownershit run.

Yeah, they’ve been good to me so far. I want to get a better set of tars because the conti’s that are on them are very noisy due to the uneven wear and they are 2 of the same manufacture date tires (probably from a rotation) but the other two are different manufacture dates (which leads me to believe they were swapped out one at a time.)

They’re all the same make/model tar doe.
