I remember my dad checked out a C300 a few years back and I was pretty impressed. I didn't drive it but I thought it was definitely nicer inside than the equivalent 3 series.
I don't know much about these C43's though. Anyone have experience? They seem intriguing.

I wonder if you could fit a set of rear wheels up front and go 245 all around.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 10:29 amOh wow these came down 15k since I was last looking.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 6:54 pm Since I've been going through the usual suspects of S3, S4, and 340i's, I suddenly remembered the MB C43. They are better inside than the 3xx fake sports. But in the fake amg trim they tend to be quite heavy, the chassis is also quite noodely and they are neutered by tires in a near 4000# vehicle so expect terminal under steer. Other than that they are great cars
You can't really put tires up front and not expect understeer. I have driven several C300s, and sport C300 and a C450 (the same thing as a C43. The C300 which ride on the exact suspensions as the C43. they are frankly the same car as they feature the "amg" brakes. The difference is the motor, which is a peach in the C43, but I preferred the RWD cars as they come in at around 3300/3400lbs vs the heavy 4000lb AWD AMG car with even more weight in the nose.
I am not sure here, as we don't get foul weather enough to test it and there isn't THAT much power that you "need it". It seemed very unobtrusive, but man if you don't like "dead" steering you're in for a treat on the C class, it has the deadest steering in it's class.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 1:24 pmI wonder if you could fit a set of rear wheels up front and go 245 all around.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 10:29 am

How does the 4matic compare to xdrive and quattro?
There are several V8 powered C classes.

The last gen was the C63 amg (w204), i was extensively shopping them because I really liked the size/power combo and the fact that they were around 30k.
07-11 engines are basically fucked (if you like to drive them a lot), there are many issues, camwear, headbolts, oil usage etc. 12+ models are rare and far more expensive. There are several "kits" that cost about 3k to install that take care of the head bolt "problem". Honestly it isn't THAT big of a deal... but it also is. Similar to the BMW bearing fiasco.
One thing is for certain, german car manufacturers can't build a RELIABLE hi/po engine for shit. I have yet to see an example of one that lasts over 6 figure miles with no major "DOOMSDAY" defect.
The current gen AMG cars feature a "hot V" design which frankly seems like a reliability nightmare to have two hot ass turbos in the head of the engine compartment... They are epic beasts but I'd just keep them within "warranty/lease" turns or just roll the dice in fashion.
NP I share when I can.Apex wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 2:29 pmmax225 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 2:23 pm

Always appreciate your input on this stuff Max!
The S4 and 340i xdrive are both closing in on 4,000lbs too. At least the S4 has 245's all around.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 2:04 pmYou can't really put tires up front and not expect understeer. I can honestly say my cooper is more fun to drive than any of the 3, and there is a reason that I went with it. The ///M cars are the only ones in that category that are actually FUN to drive. The pseudo M and AMG cars have been neutered in several categories for a reason. Said reason being to upsell the customers to the ///M real AMG lines.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:04 pmThe S4 and 340i xdrive are both closing in on 4,000lbs too. Yep, there are also "air ride" offerings. Depending on options. There are quite a few.. but if you get a "sport" C300 it gets the bigger brakes/same seats as the C43, same wheel+ stiffer suspension + wheels. They ride incredibly similar...MrH42 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:14 pmJust came in to "well actually" youmax225 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 2:04 pm

They're on different suspensions. The differences are minor though (slight spring and valving changes for every model). RWD ones have way more travel up front obviously, but they valved each and every variant differently to some degree.
A quick Google shows the m340 x drive to be about 150-175lbs more than the c43 4matic actually. 3990 vs 3825/3850 with the S4 splitting the difference.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:04 pmThe S4 and 340i xdrive are both closing in on 4,000lbs too. Also the BMW has a much nicer shaped/bigger trunk the C300 has a really odd shape ... Also for the linebacker crew the C class is bigger/nicer up front. Back seats are usable for 4 people in all. And MB PORNORAMIC roofs are absolutely epic.
Also up until this year or last year in our sure the C had that cheap looking tablet screen on the dashmax225 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:23 pmAlso the BMW has a much nicer shaped/bigger trunk the C300 has a really odd shape ... Overally gotta pick your poison, you can't really go wrong with any of them. But they ALL will be less fun to drive than a golf R IMO.
Yeah probably. I may check one out once I hear back. I've gotta assume the MB would be most reliable too.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:23 pmAlso the BMW has a much nicer shaped/bigger trunk the C300 has a really odd shape ...
