Whoever voted for $400-500? What's the breakout there... that's essentially driving a CPO civic.
Depreciation: $125/month
Insurance: $75/month
Maintenance/mods (I even have a spreadsheet to prove it, everything done myself ): $96/month
Fuel: $150/month (estimate, don't track this, obviously would be more but I only drive about 8k miles per year).

That's the way to reduce costs. That and/or driving zero miles like JP...
Ron and Sawce got GTIs hand forged by real Aryans in the secret furnaces of the Ruhr Valley. They rest of us got tin cans built by Turks and Hungarians who had too many doners and beer at lunch with paper mache mache water pumps.
Mine lasted 40K miles with absolute zero repair maintenance costs (well, I think I changed the oil myself once, so $1/month). No repairs were done under warranty either, half of that mileage tooned. I think most are pretty good cars, Oktoberfest units withstanding. All of the ones built by hard working Mexicans are likely fine.

I forgot reg/tax, NC is kind of :bas: , so that's another $30 or so per month (it's different every year, but that's the most it's been). They actually raised the "appraised value" from $8,500 last year to $13,600 this year
I also overestimated on the fuel costs, but I don't keep track so , it's gets about 20 average on premium that costs $0.60 more than regular in the Carolinas.

So totalcost: $476/month and $0.81/per mile.
Same per mile cost as my m3 impressive
In defense of that number, it has been modded and tracked. Take away the brake/tire expenses and other mods, it goes down quite a bit. $900 sets of tires that last 5k miles is .
I never got the"pink puddle" mine just started losing coolant slowly and it was the water pump both times.
One time, about 2-3 years ago, I saw the coolant level drop over several weeks from the max line to just above the min. I brought it up at the next service and the topped it up to the seam on the bottle (about .25" above the max line) It's dropped a bit, but it's still a smidge above the max line when I last checked it yesterday afternoon. If my wp is leaking, it's a slow enough leak that I'm gonna unless/until I notice the drop rate increase a LOT.
Mine would go max to min in a few days, which is unacceptable. Started losing some coolant without a leak in the Brahoe, was a water pump as well. Seems reasonable after 15 years though. In general, small coolant problems become stranded by the roadside eventually, which does not work for me.

Yes it's a cool car. But prepare the lube/sawdust.

How did that happen?

The WP got replaced in the crown vic, started leaking after 380k miles, I took it off, to only find it to be in excellent shape. Replaced it anyways, and the waterpump itself wasn't leaking it was a $.10 O ring... that just hardened over time I still replaced the pump as it is "Cheap insurance" and it is only $50.
My stepmoms WP was leaking on the 2011 Q5 after 70k miles and it was a $1300 job, same # i got from Indy's and Audi.

You can dispute it... but not worth it really, just gotta pay. At least our sales tax is only 3% on cars.

As soon as I see the rate increase I'm getting it looked at. Until then...
