Mazda approached the ND development with a gram strategy to cut weight wherever possible, and the trans casing is one area where they focused on weight loss. Some have speculated that the loss of structural material on the trans has made it susceptible to flexing under load.
It's a 2300 lb car meeting all 2016 regulations and customer demands, they went full Colin Chapman on it and it bit them in the ass.

Yeah, I'm not complaining - but not going to risk buying one either. If the ND2 proves to have fixed the problem, then it'll be a future classic. I highly doubt that we'll ever see another sub-2500 lb rwd car in this country. Only Lotus themselves might bring another one eventually.[user not found] wrote:Gotta give ‘em credit for the Lotus treatment. Well... with a hitch rack it would still be shorter than an STI... just saying. I'm actually going Max-spec here and saying that being bummed about the inability to fit a bike in a Miata is ridiculous. I actually had a bike rack on my Gayata and it was just fine. Better TB vehicle than a Poorvette because you can actually drive through gravel lots without scraping on everything.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Fri Jul 20, 2018 9:29 pmOh wow that mobile detailing salon[user not found] wrote: ↑Fri Jul 20, 2018 9:28 pm
For Tennessee, I fit the following in my trunk:
1 large duffel filled with clothes for the wife and I
1 small bucket filled with towels and car soap
1 12x4x6 detail kit
1 soft case emergency tool kit
12 cans of beer
1 softsided shopping bag half filled with spices and some food
1 bigger blacker box of Cards Against Humanity
1 blonde mullet wig
No mountain bike

But I was more that he didn’t take the bike and go slay some MTB trails down in Griffland when he was at the Fap.

[user not found] wrote: ↑Sun Aug 12, 2018 9:39 amThere is very little time to actually do things other than drive, because the roads are just that good down there. I think I had one day where I laid low out of the 5 full days I was down there this year.
Plus I had to leave a day early.
Bike is going next year, though.

Bring a bike with you, do a late afternoon test drive, and then lets go get some riding in after I get out at 5.

I wonder how bad the visibility and highway noise is on the RF. The recarbros look great.

Interesting. So it's really 7200 RPM. And all the mags are saying it's basically no faster than the ND1, except for maybe during autocrossing where the new motor makes more torque down low.troyguitar wrote: ↑Mon Aug 13, 2018 12:40 pm https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2018/ ... by-tufnel/

So, I am not sure it's worth the price hike vs a regular ND1 and a header/tune? Regardless this is the motor the ND1 should have had. Slightly hot rodded instead of pulled directly from the 3.

I mean compared to a regular-ish car, say a mazda3 hatch or an RX8... Obviously soft tops are terrible for both visibility and noise.[user not found] wrote:Visibility is better than a regular convertible and highway noise is not bad at all.troyguitar wrote: ↑Mon Aug 13, 2018 12:40 pm https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2018/ ... by-tufnel/

RF with recarbros is going to be $40k anyway so that's a big ole until they're $20k in 3 years.

If you're going to tune it anyway, ND1. If not, ND2... Or if you want a cruiser and don't really care about it being the best, get an NC for less than half the price.Johnny_P wrote:
