Possibly. not saying every $ ever, but at the "poverty" market they add some value like maintenance/upkeep. I am willing to pay extra for something like that, as are others, indicated by the higher prices for well-kept models.

This isn't the big daddy CLS, just an ML. Doesn't have much in terms of fancy suspensions/electronics etc. It'll be fine my issue is it'll be very difficult to sell as no one wants one as you pointed out. I'd be dealing with 3-4k offers 12-18 months from now. And yes, I am assuming I'll be selling it or any other vehicle rather quickly. I am not going to kid myself otherwise.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 4:17 pmThe price is based on the potential for expensive repairs. The engine and transmission will likely be fine, its all the rest of it. Same reason all I could get for the the 2008 CLS550 for $16.5K. Rich people want new ones, poor people can't afford the risk. You can afford the risk. I dunno, that looks like a decent option to me. But you wouldn't be a rugged individualist like all the Jeep and Colorado owners on the forum, and for that reason, you would need to kill yourself.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 4:02 pm
Poverty means 150k+ miles, holes in the seats and faded paint. I think that is unacceptable at 10k.
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/ctd/d/ ... 52980.html
Here is a bulletproof 5.0 powered Mercedes with acceptable miles. No it won't be terribly unreliable that powertrain is ok. And it doesn't have much in electronics. I think it is bizzare that a taco is worth double with the same year/criteria.
No turned over portapottys, no black carpets, or torn up seats or faded paint. An excellent stereo, good performance etc.
That said I am not interested in a mall cruiser, hence the "hate" for "cuvs" I am interested in something a bit more durable, that I can cheap myself on the cheap and won't give me too much of a headache.
I need the vehicle to have strong resale in the future however, I know myself, I get bored and I I don't want some old SUV to cost me 5-10k in depreciation in 12-18 months.

Buying an ML to off road it is very likely a horrible idea. They're rather capable IIRC but break anything and it's to repair. Also the aforementioned crangslist fuckery with offering you $4k in a year.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 4:22 pmThis isn't the big daddy CLS, just an ML. Max, you basically have to be OK with spending "too much" on a used 4Runner, Wrangler, whatever and then reselling it for "too much" later on.
You know it'll sell. Used 4R's are only around on crangslist for a day or two in your hood price be damned.

Eh, I'd just keep it for awhile and keep trading dick swinger cars. That's a good price for what you get....run it to 150K miles and sell it.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 4:22 pmThis isn't the big daddy CLS, just an ML. check this one out guys... Basically almost "modded" the same way I'd do it... minus the fucking front bumper... and various recovery gear. I'd be concerned it was rode too hard... then again... at least the seller used quality parts and can write a detailed ad.

Agreed. Which is why I am ok with spending 10-12k on it vs 4-6k on a WJ even though it'll do the same for me... the crazy part is... there is nearly nothing in that price range...
I am ruling out TJ's, They are tough to find and I don't trust the i6, yes I know "it will run a million" miles Bs but half the ones I see either pop a head or are rebuilt by 150k. So I am about all that.

Because by now approximately 82% of them have been used to redline through mud pits repeatedlymax225 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 4:39 pmAgreed. See that's the thing. That's exactly the point of a cheap af off roader. High school kids buy them to beat the ever living shit out of them and it's truly a experience until you put it in a lake or whatever.

I just don't get the for Tacomas. It's probably decent, but I'd enjoy a Jeep more, personally.

Also, Hummer H3's were legit offroaders. Can probably be had in the price range.

Taco, Ultimate offroad vehicle ever created. Will run 500,000 miles with oil changes only EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. Worth unborn children and platinum regardless of mileage and condition.

I don't have a for Tacos, (no pun). I like the size, reliability, cost of maintenance, aftermarket and resale, and I don't mind the way they look.
It is tough to pick something utilitarian that isn't absolutely to look at. I am not huge on TJs, mainly because of the I6, it is a fking boatanchor of an engine, JKs are obviously out of my price range.

I've owned a few I6's and liked them just fine. I'd be looking at a LJ, WJ, H3, or Xterra, personally. Toyota stuff is just ridiculously overvalued.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 5:22 pmI don't have a for Tacos, (no pun).
