$50K is too much. This is for a guy with an 8 car garage full of EXTREME BRO cars and trucks.

It just seems like these things are the answer to a question that shouldn't be asked. I'm not sure you need to be able to set up camp in an old growth forest after trampling 44 kinds of flora and fauna and damaging miles of steelhead habitat with your Mickey Thompsons and your bro trailer. Some places should be hiked to.

Gotta think REALLY hard about where you're going and what you're going to do with it. Ultimately, I don't see an off-road camper being anything more than a liability. I'd rather setup a basecamp somewhere easily accessible with the cheap pop-up or a tent or something and then wheel from there. There's NOWHERE in the midwest to really utilize off-road campers.

There are people who have made off-road popup campers. Those are the ultimate in :scrooge: offroad camper trailers.
Yeah. I'm more interested in its utility and use of space than it's offroad capabilities.

I'll be in a tent and wife and kids will be in the teardrop. Preferably something our van can handle towing as well.

Used popups are cheap AF. Then the whole family can stay together.

Popup is the answer for getting yer feet wet with family glamping.
Seriously. $2-3k for a decent popup vs $10k MINIMUM for a teardrop that's way smaller and less usable.

Teardrops are all the rage these days, and they're absolutely cool...but the pricing is :fullretard:

They are sort of a hot rod accessory piece with the fancy paint and ramz and all of that shit so they are priced Airstreamish.

Totally. Which goes pretty far against the goal of just getting outside and enjoying nature. All of this fancy overlanding crap is, really.

I saw some of these Jeep guys pull up at a restaurant I stopped at while heading to San Diego. OLDER Jeeps, TJ's with at least 3X the original cost of their rigs in Brocessories. Both towing poor man's versions of the subject trailer. These guys were bold old AF and clearly didn't fking walk anywhere. Kind of like the guys driving the handicap scooters down the aisles at Wal Mart but outside.

Basic hard structure with a dry sleeping space. Everything else can be outside. I just don't want to be wet or on the ground when I'm sleeping.
Agreed. But that's a $15k trailer. And that's :fullretard:

15k gets you.... around 150 night stays in a hotel /motel close to said areas... and you won't kill 5mpgs towing that monster either.

150 night stays.... is like 15 years at 10 stays a year which is probably the most a sane person can do in "nature" on the average year...

They don’t make sense to me at all. Just get a full damn trailer for half the cost. Or get a pop up for 1/10 the cost.
