My 19 Rabbit stickered at ~$31k, but was knocked down to $26.5k. Of course, those were the Before Times when people didn't brag about how little they paid above sticker. I saw a black Mk8 at the dealer and it had a sticker price close to $39k and was already sold.

Yep. Even if the R doesn’t “depreciate” that’s calculated by MSRP and it’ll still be a 15-20k loss for someHuckleberry wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 5:28 pmI'd say that is base C8 territory, but those are marked up to $100k+.
There is going to be a lot of people hurting once the bottom drops out on this insanity.

Id fucking go for a m340i at that point. But that being said, how much of the mark up will be on that/or market adjustment probably not as much as the R and still reach the M territory on a good day

Yeah, I had always planned on riding out the warranty on the GTI before scooping up a replacement. This dumbassery has only reinforced that decision.MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 6:38 pmThis is why im not getting a fun car until this shitshow is done and roll in the honderp.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 5:28 pm

I don't really mind the MK8 looks at all, looks like a GTI to me. I like the gold/yellow, reminds me of the E46 M3 yellow.
I think I'd rather a MINI at this point though, GTI just seems too compromised. The interior going blah takes away it's 'jack of all trades' nature that really made it great. I would roll in an Si for $10K less all day long as well.

When I bought my Mk7 Sport, it was marked down from $30 to $22.5… there was $5k in manufacturer to dealer incentives on top of a big discount on the car in late 2017.wap wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 11:42 amMy 2011 was $28500 OTD.MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 11:12 am

the accord doesn't feel that far off from the GTI, just softer and a little floatier. Also id take si over the mk8, I saw the matt farah and zack clapman video and the infotainment is just hold my beer to the BMWs older idrive when it comes to induceD Griff wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 4:41 pm I don't really mind the MK8 looks at all, looks like a GTI to me. The yellow looks cool. I like the looks overall especially the back end. I can get used to the bird wing headlights. Seems like a pretty minor styling point overall. The infotainment would be an absolute non starter for me.
I don’t really like any of the current sport compacts. WRX has an awful interior with the big screen and is kind of ugg, Civic rev hang and sounds horrific, GLI is a Passat, GTI has an unusable interior. Elantra maybe if you like the looks.
I dunno. Man VW really missed the mark with this didn’t they. Should have been a slam dunk for them, the GTI is technically the best overall and has been for a while.

I think the three main downfalls of the mk8 are basically
1. that it is a mk5.3
2.that it has gotten quite expensive for what it is
3.Cost cutting that’s way too obvious
They made it cheaper and more expensive and they lack any sort of innovation. Really pathetic. I think this stems largely from the fact that this segment is essentially dead due to CUVs

I agree #'s 2 and 3 and your last comment, but IMO #1 should be it's a Mk7.75.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 11:54 am I think the three main downfalls of the mk8 are basically

It really is pretty far removed from a Mk5
FSI EA112 to TSI EA888
PQ35 to MQB chassis
Much more like a Mk7/7.5.

The PQ35 and MQB feel so unbelievably different to me you can't even put them in the same leagues, IMO. That said, if I were keeping a car like the GTI I'd see zero reason to move on from my MK7 to get the MK8. If that's how enough GTI lovers feel, that'll be really bad news for VW. If I were looking at a new car in that space, I'd take home the new Civic Si and it wouldn't be close.
The Honda and Hyundai options seem pretty compelling to me. The WRX is fucking heinous. I've seen them in person now The GTI I don't hate, but it seems like not being able to adjust volume/fan speed would be pretty inconvenient.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 11:00 am The yellow looks cool. I'd rather have the F30 than any of these for 0.5 the price, so I'll stick with it.

I'm going to venture out and say VW gives nearly 0 fucks about the GTI. They have shown this to us by introducing a barely updated thing... They are putting all their best people + Money into the ID line ups.
