These are so epic.
I remember when the S6 Avant came out here and I went with my dad to the local Audi to check it out. He was really close to picking one up, then didn't.

Spoke to the salesman and killed the deal. Almost owned my first VW. Oh well.coogles wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 11:35 amYes it is. I'm biased, but the 2017 Sport model is still the ideal build. Lighting package, PP, no leak and rattle-prone sunroof, pre-refresh HU so no swaths of piano black plastic everywhere. no pointless driver aids to beep annoyingly and fail, and of course the cloth seats.

They're great cars, but I'd definitely try to find a gently used one from '17 or '18.

We'll see what happens. 2019 isn't over yet and we'll see if VW can figure out a fix.coogles wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 3:20 pmHuckleberry wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 3:06 pm

I am pretty sure 30,000 vehicles won't be affected by this... And they'll have a fix. This seems like a software update and there is a long ass warranty. why worry?Huckleberry wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 3:06 pmSpoke to the salesman and killed the deal. Almost owned my first VW. I'm not worried. I don't need to buy a new vehicle. I have just been looking because I've been wanting to get back into a stick, my truck has 115K on it, and is going on 12 years old. I maintain it, so it runs perfectly fine. The biggest problem with it is the rust bubbles forming on the rear wheel arches.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 4:39 pmI am pretty sure 30,000 vehicles won't be affected by this... So, I don't have much desire to hop back into a payment with the knowledge of a potential ongoing issue. Yes, the long warranty is one reason I started looking at GTIs, but that doesn't mean I want to get to know the service department on a first name basis.

I bet they have something stupid like a relay overheating. From my 20 seconds of research it seems this happens in stop/go or heavy low speed usage? My MK6 had a relay that would overheat under the dashboard. It made a click every shift if you drove it in stop/go congestion for too long on a hot day. Solution was roll up the windows and crank the AC. Oh man, the horror of that car.coogles wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 11:10 amIt does now, PP is standard. I'd avoid 2019 manuals like the plague, though. They have stalling issues that VW hasn't figured out, several have been bought back. A few instances of problems with the DSG cars, but the rate seems to be quite a bit lower.

Shot in the dark here...but did anyone ever put in a claim under VW paint warranty? Supposedly it's 12 years/unlimited mileage but I think that is for corrosion from the inside out. I have serious peeling away on my hood and on the roof just behind the windshield. Wondering whether it's worth the hassle to try to get some joy.

No TSBs active that specifically outline stalling, but there was an ECM/TCM reflash bulletin issued on 7/29.
We've got one in the shop now for the issue, though. I'll keep you posted on what they find.
Such a weird issue to pop up at this point in the product life cycle, but definitely seems it isn't .

Rust/Corrosion is the 12 year warranty, under the painted surface.
I've worked in a dealership environment for 14 years and can count the number of paint warranty claims I've handled on one hand.
