Well they do a little something. They're not totally worthless.

The OEM one should be cheap enough and it covers up the oil pan.
the oem one is about 500. the metal ones are $300 all in iirc. I dont feel i need one honestly. The metal pan should be much more robust. Im pretty  in the lack of ability in the composite plastic pan.
$500 for a plastic belly pan is :ludacris: . It's that much even on e-acca or cars245?

The GTO came like that from the factory due to the aluminum pan's sump sitting in front of the crossmember.

the oem plastic belly pan that exposes pan is $12 from china. $60 from oem cars245 and $110 on ecs. That does really nothing other than air and splashes.

there is some OEM+ hd skid plate option from the alltrack. its metal i think. could be HD plastic tho. :notsure:

My point is that a stock car shouldn't be designed to have the oil pan so vulnerable that it requires a skid plate. That's ridiculous.

Off-road vehicles (wheeling (ZR2), Rally (Subaru), etc) make sense to have additional protection IMO.

Exposed oil pan is probably due to the bean counters.

$775 to be exact.

19 years old, no accidents, owners manual booklet stacked full of every maintenance item, zero broken items in the interior, recent timing belt and water pump.

Never done the high mileage thing, but the car feels like it only has 80k on it aside from strut mounts.

I am still semi maintaining a car with 410k miles, the issue is, anything could break at this point. The car is essentially spent. But i get the appeal. 3 digit motoring can save a bit of money. A Jetta like that with 80k miles can’t be much more than $2000 :doe:

Oh you aren't wrong; and I looked at a few but in the end I didn't want to spend that much money at the moment; this was sort of a stopgap until I found something that jumped out at me which screamed "BUY ME NOW"

If it blows up, it blows up. I know what I'm getting myself into, fear not.

I still have my Rabbit that needs a turbo rebuilt, but no idea where to get that done :(

My 20 YO Mk4 GTI with the 2.slo is still running fine since I sold it to a coworker a few years ago. Granted, it's got almost 200k miles less than this Jetta, but still...

Are you in a Humid environment ? I noticed... the headliners in Florida fail all the time. It's essentially a non issue in cali.

Yeah 90% of FL has the same climate zone as us. It's an armpit.
