Soooo...
I had the first feels of I made the choice today. Went to cars and coffee this morning. Saw an old car buddy who works at hybridracing here in BR, for a long time. They do K sawp things and make sweet boutique honduh parts. They got a new type R as a shop toy. All it has is an OTS hondata tune for a 40hp bump and down sized wheels to 18x9 to run a 255/40.
HOLY HELL THE CIVIC HAULS. The fourth gear pull is REAL strong and they are hitting 128mph on the straight at our local track (NMSP).
If you can look past the chincy interior, fake wide body and ridic cartoon wang, its down right for $35k. The front LSD does magic. The gear box is fantastic. It has plenty of room for meaty tires.
The usable storage is superior to the golf. Its hatch is massive and it has more rear leg room. Its biggest draw back is having to look at it, which is subjective, I'll admit.

And they're not $35k. The honduh are worse than VW that's for sure.

I almost bought a Type R at MSRP, deposit and all. I don't regret it at all at this stage in my life. It would be fun to hoon but I just couldn't live with fwd + 300 hp + snow and ice.... oh and the body work. It's just too much. The is perfect IMO, traction for days, good looking, nice interior and tech, and it rips in the kind of driving conditions I have to my disposal
More extreme and I'd look at high horsepower rwd cars, American preferably.

I thought VW had done well with the MK6 tuning.
250hp in a 2.0L FWD car was a blast. I couldnt imagine almost 400.

I liked the list of cars to wait for below the article.
Thing I predict wont make it due to gas prices:

Ppl are "rich" now, no one cares about gas prices. We're at over $4 in a lot of places and SUVs/Truks are flying off the shelves.dubshow wrote: ↑Mon Jun 04, 2018 1:10 pmvery good read, thanks for sharing.wap wrote: ↑Mon Jun 04, 2018 1:02 pm Fun read.

I had an run with the last tank of gas, mainly because its warmer out but not blistering A/C weather this week, and I've been driving non-stop freeway. Had the car do the conversions:

My GTI blows me away with the reported fuel economy. I have a 46 mile commute, one way. It’s 34 miles of interstate at about 75-85mph, and a mix of stop and go and twisty back roads for the rest. I routinely get - reported 34 MPG, with about 38-40 on the highway stretch.
It’s actually more than I get in the mini.
