You're absolutely right here One is a bona fide muscle car, the other is a reasonable DD. If you're doing a lot of highway commuting and you need more torks and interior space than a Camry will deliver, get the R/T. If you are getting your Hooters meet on every day, there is only one answer.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 5:18 pmI mean it's not insignificant. It really depends on you, and what you consider fun. These cars can be had with the 5.7 for next to nothing and with a quick exhaust mod they sound great.
I have extensively shopped these and new they have around 10-15k on the hood for the 5.7s but at most 1/2 that for the 392. They are only very minor dynamic differences between the two motors. However the 392s come with much bigger brakes.
That said I couldn’t justify the huge upcharge for the same car with a slightly bigger motor.

Are you comparing with a 392 Daytona or even SRT?max225 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 5:26 pmIt isn't 4k, it is more like 10-15k. The 5.7s have heavy discounts, the 392s don't on top of having a higher MSRP. There isn't THAT MUCH of a performance increase between the vehicles. Even the 392 is mostly meh, yes it is obviously better than the 5.7 but I don't' think it can justify that premium.
Scats can be had for mid to high 30s so the difference is probably no more than 5-6k.
I’d get a Charger Scat Pack because I’d want the 392, not because I want a Charger, if that makes sense. Premium schremium fuel.

I went 335i because reasons, the 5.7 and the 392 cost as much as the BMW from a monthly operating budget, so that was a simple choice. The F30 is a far better chassis for actual performance-oriented driving than the LX chassis, which favors noise.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 5:38 pmMax would but the Scat over the R/T every time, he doesn't practice what he preaches.
I would 5.7 Chrysler 300, with a muffler delete (for 20k used) and retrofit the brembros if I cared enough for that. There are major other shortcommings of this chassis that don't get addressed with brakes or power.

The current MSRP on the pack is 40k vs 36k on the R/T I am assuming that's where you get your 4k from. A 392 is over 50k. As I mentioned several times by now, unless something major changed. A on a 5.7 vehicle is super easy. I got over 10k off another LX powered vehicle. At the same time the most you can get off the big motors is 5k, that compounds the delta of MSRP.Swedish Chef wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 5:53 pmAre you comparing with a 392 Daytona or even SRT?max225 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 5:26 pm

I don't think there's a such thing as the "SRT 392" anymore, and there's no longer a 5.7L Scat Pack. So even the base/cheapest 2019 Scat Pack will have the 485hp 392 engine and Brembo brakes. The R/T Daytona has taken the place of the R/T Scat Pack with the 5.7Lmax225 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 6:16 pmThe current MSRP on the pack is 40k vs 36k on the R/T I am assuming that's where you get your 4k from. Looks like the Scat now comes with the 8.4 u connect standardas well. It didn't before. But cloth seats are still standard.
If you can get an equal amount off MSRP now, whether it is 5.7 or 392 I'd def go 392, the 4k upcharge is worth it, when I was looking the actual transactional difference, was over 10k. IIRC claims to have paid well under 30k for his (5.7), which I am about.
I was pointing out to my earlier shopping experience from 18 months ago, when i noted that the bigger engined cars had far less money on the hood.

I think they've ramped up production or dealers have finally started ordering more. There's tons on the market, and possibly now that Hellcat hype has died down that might have dropped ATPs of the Hellcat look-a-like.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 6:26 pmYea based on my recent research FCA continues to go with all these different models and equipment levels.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 6:20 pm

Everyone can gun it on an on-ramp, but if you hit a turn to fast and wrap it around a tree you need a new car.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 6:45 pm Just going to the Dodge site is ..........it's like 1970 all over again. Power and 1/4 mile times. Fuck the rest.

You can go 0-70 without a ticket. The point was that going in a straight line is a bit less prone to fucking up vs making the street your Nurburgring.troyguitar wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 8:28 pmI was going to say that insurance covers single vehicle accidents, but not triple digit speeding tickets...fledonfoot wrote:

The $.70 disparity is a bit much. At least Shell and Exxon do $.20 off/gallon on Tuesdays over here.

Buy a toy upfront, money is gone. Keep car over a period of time, not placing constantly, save money. Meteor strikes car, utilize emergency fund for additional transportation.
Throw extra funds from last month/bonus to replenish emergency fund.
If additional funds are needed look to liquidate stocks/mutual funds/less liquid items.
I'm with you. I understand completely. It makes inherent sense to me and is pretty much how we spend $ on cars, too, though admittedly at a level less than $78k Write a check for 'em, replenish that money over time. X number of years later (usually 10-ish for us), rinse and repeat. Emergency funds never touched.
